McCain is computer illiterate because -- wait for it -- he was a POW! We have that right straight from the very gob of Karl Rove hisself, so it must be the undiluted truth. Wow, who'da thunk?
Karl Rove lambasted the Obama campaign on Fox News Sunday for its recent ad criticizing Sen. John McCain for his supposed inability to use a computer.

Asked by Chris Wallace to comment on negative campaigning by Sen. Obama, Rove said that McCain's injuries suffered in a Vietnamese prison camp were responsible for his computer illiteracy.

"But they then say he doesn't …send e-mail. Well, this is because his war injuries keep him from being able to use a keyboard. He can't type. You know, it's like saying he can't do jumping jacks," Rove said. "There's a reason he can't raise his arms above his head. There's a reason he doesn't have the nimbleness in his fingers."
Erm Karl, all you need to type with reasonable efficency is two fingers and I fail to see why you might need to suspend the keyboard over your head to do it.

Could it be that McCain was simply too lazy and incurious to learn?

Only on Fox..... And only chronic Fox viewers would believe it....

Uh? He can't raise his arms... and that makes it hard to use a keyboard how?

I mean, I can't raise my arms all that high either; it's hard even to dress. My wrists are f-ed up, too, as are my elbows, and my fingers are doing no piano playing. But somehow I manage to type, quite fast, too, with two fingers? And use Photoshop, no less. And write. And do lots of things with my hands and arms.

Not to mention, there is something nifty called speech recognition...

You, dear sir, are making excuses. If you don't like it, just say it. Hmpf.

Can he use a pen? Because if he can write, then he can type.

Exactly. I guess that means Rove is computer illiterate as well.

The Orwellian concept of a Ministry of Truth is personified by the reality of a Karl Rove. Everyone knows he is a lying, conniving sack of shit, but only half of the country cares. We have almost come to accept lying as a noble profession that is now called adviser to (fill in the blank.)

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Suspicions confirmed! Tonya Harding shot JFK, and therefore, Karl Rove must be the reincarnation of Joseph Goebbels.

How can it be denied with the evidence right there in front of us?

The more I think about this, the more absurd I find it. Stephen Hawking uses a computer. Is McCain suggesting his range of motion is more limited than him? I just wish the media would call Rove on this stuff rather than repeat it without comment.

I love me some crazy conspiracy theories. They can reach Pythonesc levels of absurd... except that they are serious about it...

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The inability to fact check information with an admitted intellectual disinterest in technology should make McCain a less than ideal choice for the discerning voter. These same flaws are with President Bush and they are not valued qualities. They often bring about wrong-minded conclusions.

Unfortunately, this non-critical thinking resonates with the pop culture - pop politics of the US. Snap judgments, lack of introspection and following the "gut". Evangelicals would do well to question putting another man in the White House that is morally corrupt and righteous in his own eyes.

If McCain is not fact checking for himself and lacks the motivation to do so, then who does this for him? Look at some recent precedent. Who advised McCain on the Georgia incident - that he was so clearly wrong about?

McCain is clearly an instinct driven politician. Less 'seat of the pants' and more intellectual integrity and curiosity is required for this job.

The lack of PC skills is far more telling on McCain's character than can be dismissed by physical handicap. Where there is a will, there is a way - as H. Humbert points out above - just look at Stephen Hawking. McCain lacks the intellectual will.

We deserve better.

Well, maybe he can't get his arms all the way over his head, but he can certainly get them high enough to type. Rove is trying to play the sympathy card, and playing it so poorly that I'd love to get him into a table-stakes poker game.....

McCain was an NVN POW, and I can respect and relate to that. But there are a lot of people extant that bear the scars of that era, many of them in a lot worse shape than he is. He is nothing particularly special in that regard.

Rove is considered a political genius, but I think the only people who actually believe thus are the frantic neo-conservatives and the brain-dead -- but I repeat myself. Really, he is as transparent as glass. Just hose off the crud and there he is.

That's Photoshopped, Fil. In reality, McCain can't get either thumb out of his ass.

It seems like Obama is fighting back now.
Good; good.
