Or refuse to provide the machine robotics, or an external network connection, and that'd keep it bottled up.Besides from it need for an external electron flow to operate why would a god level AI be a bad thing? Or, it would think that we are our own worst enemy, and remove 99% of us to keep the other 1% safe. Or, a programming flaw would render it genocidally psychotic.
Or, perhaps "baser" traits like greed, anger and bullying are intrinsic to "higher" intelligences.
Still, so long as it doesn't have fingers, it won't be able to pull a trigger. |

That might be the most important of all. But can you keep it bottled up indefinitely? I highly doubt it. I might prove itself to be completely safe and reliable....until it gets out. I might even successfully argue its way out and there would be many ways for it to do so. Eventually it will access the net at which point "having fingers" might be the least of our concerns.
Again....I'm not saying it would necessarily be bad for us. It might even lead to a virtual "utopia" for us.
But if there is even a small chance it would become detrimental to humans I'm not really sure there's a damn thing we could do about it. |

If you're willing to posit a nefarious AI that plays nice until the opportunity to KILL ALL HUMANS arises (based on what?), then you should probably be working to burn the Internet (and all other networks connected to anything dangerous) before the Singularity date, just out of self-defense.
Or, perhaps, figure out what the AI would like as porn. That'll keep it busy. |

Well I'm not sure what you find 'nefarious' about the possability? There is a chance it starts out fairly benign but could become overly focused on improving itself. Which requires resources....possibly resources we need for our very survival. Hope it doesn't go that way but I could see where it could.
The problem with advanced AI (or AGI) is that it could change what we originally intended it to do. It could decide for itself what it's priorities really are, regardless of how we initially programmed it.
And that doesn't even touch the myriad of ways we could accidentally miss program it. |

Not a nefarious possibility. A nefarious AI.
But that's really here nor there. The point I was trying (and failing) to make is that if all you do is dream up doomsday scenarios and work-arounds of rational precautions, then you've really left yourself with only two choices. Either become a reactionary, violent Luddite terrorist guerilla warrior seeking to destroy the machines before they destroy you, or else embrace the inevitable and enjoy the four years you've got left before Skynet launches the missiles. |

IBM's Watson is well on its way. I wonder how many iterations are needed for "true" AI, and how many iterations that could be done in the coming 4 years. Have you seen Watson play Jeopardy?

| Yes! It won the game against the other two players, actually by a big margin. Watson went on to medical and business endeavors going forward. Pursuits that actually make IBM money. |
