Some where, in the high mountains of Tibet, there is a sacred hermitige. The monk; the holy hermit within has none of those trappings of civilization that we are so used to that they escape our notice. He has nor needs no contact with the world and lives on the scant offerings of food and the copper coins put into his bowl by religious pilgrims seeking his blessings. He prays and he meditates, and he might weigh #80, soaking wet. He is alone in the world and has, probably, not heard about McCain wussing out of tonight's debate.
I've read both sides of this debate over the debate -- it was done because McCain is a super patriot and is putting country before self, and on the other side: he wants to protect Palin from being run through the mangle by Biden and is setting her show back to some day over there in Never Happen Land. Either sounds pretty good.
But I've had a wonder or two that it is not McCain's health that is the holdup.
He's been recently photographed with a slightly drooping eye, not necessarily indicating anything, but not a good sign.
He also has a brand, new make-up artist, a pretty, blond one who gets someting like five grand a pop.
Now, you know and I know that a clever, blond make-up artist could, for 5-large, make Ken Ham look like Cleopatra. It causes me to speculate that McCain's maybe having some serious health problems and needs a little space to clear them up.
Whaddya think?

If he drops dead before the election.... can the republicans replace him on the ticket?

filthy: McCain's maybe having some serious health problems and needs a little space to clear them up. |
A droopy eye could be nothing more than an allergic reaction or that he had something in his eye and didn't have time to flush it out and recover. It could be a lot of things.
I'm going with the most likely answer for his "time out". He is dropping in the polls and needs to do something fast to look presidential.
Also, Obama called him first and brought up suspending the campaign to go do their thing in the senate. After some maneuvering and at least one phone call later to Obama, with no mention of suspending the debate, he scooped Obama by making his announcement to suspend his campaign and go back to Washington to fix the mess (that he got us in to.) That pissed off the Obama camp and so they responded with the suggestion that a person who plans to be president should be able handle more than one thing at a time.
All I see is political maneuvering to get the upper hand on Obama, who was smart enough to turn it back around on McCain.
If recovery is what McCain is after, I doubt that it's for a droopy eye... |

I think since at least Reagan the Republicans have set it up so that they can, if need be, run any puppet they want at the top of the ticket. Bush is certainly the biggest doofis ever to hold office yet it didn't matter to them. As long as large corporations actually ran the country behind the scenes. I'm being a bit flippant but I think there's a grain of truth to it.

Maybe if he does drop dead the Republicans will pull out all the stops and insert George W. AGAIN! (Yes that's right a third term). We are in a war (or two) and a financial crisis....maybe we can just name Georgie dictator until this all blows over. |

Kil is probably correct, but McCain's been playing his medical records so close to the vest that one becomes suspicious. After all, it is known that he has been treated for melanoma and that's a lot worse than even the bullhead clap (which he might have had treatment for as well, but we'll never know). Indeed, melonoma is some bad shit that has the quaint habit of often going for the brain. A doctor weighs in about McCain's health John Aravosis (DC) · 9/22/2008 01:25:00 PM ET ·
I've gotten a number of emails from readers in the medical profession, sharing their concerns about John McCain's health. As Sam Donaldson said yesterday, McCain's confusion on a series of issues of late raises the "age question" again. It may not be politically correct to ask if John McCain is hiding information from the public about his mental status (senility, dementia, Alzheimer's) or about his cancer, but it's really something we can't ignore, especially now that McCain has chosen Sarah Palin as his VP, someone who would become president if McCain dies in office or is otherwise forced to step down.
One more thing. Let's not forget the highly suspicious manner in which McCain gave the public access to his medical records. He let only a handful of reporters review thousands of pages of records for 3 hours on a holiday weekend. That was it. No photocopies permitted, and once the timer is up, it's over. John McCain is treating legitimate concerns about whether he will survive in office, as if we're playing some grocery story game show in which you only get to keep what you can put in your cart before the bell goes off. We're talking about the presidency. It's still unfathomable that the media agreed to McCain's terms. Here is what I wrote at the time: | Which is why I pose the question.
And here's The Rude Pundit's take on the whole mess.
