Hi.
Just thought I'd introduce myself.
I hope I can contribute to the world of skeptics, but I doubt it.
Oh crap that wasn't a good way to introduce myself, or was it. Hell, I don't know, after all I'm just a retired old guy with nothing better to do for the foreseeable future, if there is one.

Welcome.

My girlfriend and her brother are Hoosiers. Very nice folks, quite normal............until Basketball season.

Welcome.

I spent my first 27 years as a hoosier. Most of my family still live in the Anderson-Muncie area, about 33 miles up I-69 from Indianapolis. And I still make 2 visits a year back to Indiana.

My paternal grandmother's family is from Hoosieria somewhere. I never learned the language though.

Great! Excellent! Another treacherous, old codger!

Beware all, our numbers are growing and soon we shall wipe the Earth free of the evil follies of youth & enthusiasm! We shall punish with severity and without mercy all who dare..... Oops, sorry 'bout that.

Hi Hoo, and welcome! My brother lives in Illinois, which is about as close to Indiana as I can currently get. I have been through it a few times, though, mainly by Harley & Peterbilt.

Welcome; hope that your stay will be long and enriching!

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Welcome to the SFN!

We're often a bit rowdy, sometimes obnoxious, but we always love a good argument.

Sounds like you'll fit in just fine. And welcome.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Not to turn this into an argument, but caleb didn't have bad arguments. He didn't have any arguments at all.

Speak for yourself; some of us love bad arguments. They are fun to take apart and easy dispose of. And the real beauty of them is that their proponent almost always comes back for more.

Welcome to SFN, oldhoosier!

I'll also add my specialized welcome to filthy's, as you willy-nilly join the coterie of we retired folks who operate our own caucus here. (One of our caucus rules is that we do not recognize the existence of the so-called Twenty First Century, eight years being insufficient evidence for its alleged existence. We may make up other rules as we go along.)

If you begin as a sharp-minded skeptic, these fora may help you to maintain that functionality, despite your esteemed decrepitude.
