To at least a small extent, it appears to be true.
"I wouldn't want a mixed marriage for my daughter, but I'm voting for Obama," the wife of a retired Virginia coal miner, Sharon Fleming, told the Los Angeles Times recently. |
Why? Because many of them are more concerned about the economy than they are about race, apparently.
"The economy is trumping racism," said Kurt Schmoke, the dean of Howard University Law School and a former Baltimore mayor. "A lot of people who we might think wouldn't vote their pocketbook because of race - now they are." |
Still, even on a small scale, it's weird eh? Politics/economics does make strange bedfellows.

I suppose even some racists might be capable of placing major global issues and economic crises ahead of race. Can't say I know what's going through their heads, but it might be analogous to my willingness to support a Christian who is running for President, so long as that doesn't get in the way of his or her work.

It turns out that there may be another reason that racists may want Obama to win.

Speaking of bigots, has anyone noticed that Ann Coulter has been missing from the ranks of television pundits? |

Ann Coulter; I think, is completely discredited now as a journalist.
People see her as what she is; a political ignoramus with no worthwile opinion to contribute, just a string of statement designed purely for shock value. Good riddance.
As for Obama's election inducing a backlash; if he is elected; it is probably going to be true, on a limited scale and for a limited time. It has been true for every advance in civil rights thus far. But, soon enough, the tumult will calm down, meanwhile, a wall will have fallen and Obama will have demonstrated that blacks can be as good (or as bad) as any white president. Next time a black candidate is posing his candidature it will not be so big a deal. |
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Carl Sagan - 1996 |

I don't usually watch the shows she would be on, but her website says she'll be on Fox's Neil Cavuto show today, 10/29/08.
I have seen David Horowitz on some stupid Fox thing that showed all the shadowy associations Obama has with terrorists and such, so maybe they take turns. |

If people were that educated and intelligent, George Bush wouldn't be in office, and we certainly wouldn't be considering John McCain or Sarah Palin for any serious employment. |

| Gee. I wonder if Horowitz will talk about his associations from when he was younger.
…His parents were long-standing members of the Communist Party. While still identifying as a Marxist, Horowitz, like many other left wing figures of his generation, sought to distance himself from the Soviet Union.[citation needed] In the 1960s he was employed as a political aide to Bertrand Russell.[2] At this time, Horowitz was a close friend and associate of Marxist historian Isaac Deutscher. Horowitz wrote a biography of Deutscher in 1971.[3]
After returning to the US in 1968, Horowitz wrote several books that were influential in New Left critiques of American society and particularly its foreign policy, including The Free World Colossus: A Critique of American Foreign Policy in the Cold War. Horowitz was an editor at the influential New Left magazine, Ramparts.
Horowitz was a confidant of Black Panthers leader Huey P. Newton, and provided legal and financial assistance to the black revolutionary organization… |

Somehow David's past gives him credibility. Or so he thinks. |

| But the thing is, he was a blowhard then and he is a blowhard now. Nothing has really changed in him. He is still in love with his own voice.
He likes to portray his shift from the left as some kind of intellectual awakening. And then he has conversations with Rush. David Horowitz was and will always be a wannabe intellectual, no matter what side he is on... |

I don't think he even wants to be an intellectual. He just wants to continue getting rich selling snake oil. |
