Now I'll be up all night putting armor plating on my roof:
A piece of space station trash the size of a refrigerator is poised to plunge through the Earth's atmosphere late Sunday, more than a year after an astronaut tossed it overboard.

Surely the toss that Clayton Anderson gave that ammonia tank couldn't be enough in itself to cause its resulting orbit to be so different from that of the ISS that the tank would re-enter the atmosphere, right?

Or is the ISS itself in such a low orbit that it requires regular thrusts from rockets to keep its orbit from decaying due to atmospheric friction?

That makes a hell of a good argument against littering, doesn't it?

It could have been worse, it could have been a toilet-seat from the space station MIR...
