Have you ever thought about how the rest of the world view American politics? Do they look at us the way we view ourselves?

Republicans often think of democrats as weak and willing to cave in to bullies around the world. In other word, democrats are more willing to talk to adversaries, negotiate with them, give up strategic positions in order to resolve issues.

Democrats think republicans are war mongers and trigger happy, just waiting for an opportunity to unleash it's fire power. They think republicans want to rule the world and when they say they will negotiate, it means on their terms-my way or the highway.

Is this the way the world views us or is it how we view ourselves?

While I can't speak for the world at large, I can tell you that among my friends, this is the general view:
* Democrats seem more willing to talk to adversaries, negotiate with them, give up strategic positions in order to resolve issues. While not really representing "left" side of politics, Democrats are considered just about right of middle. Reasonable people who all by themselves easily would represent a major part of the political spectrum of a Scandinavian country.

* Republicans are war mongers and trigger happy, just waiting for an opportunity to unleash it's fire power. They not only think republicans want to rule the world and when they say they will negotiate (it means on their terms-my way or the highway), but also that they want to make evangelical Christianity the only world religion, Muslims be damned (and/or filled with lead or depleted uranium).
Republicans are either rich selfish bastards who thinks that homeless people are lazy bums who don't want to carry their own weight, or uneducated people who don't understand that things could/should be any other way than what the rich bastards think. Or evangelical Christians who has been convinced that their own tax-dollars are more important to them than compassion for those less fortunate.

Ok, that's a bit over the top, but not that far from the truth. I can't name a single friend or co-worker who hasn't been pro-Obama. I also can't name anyone who would vote Republican should the American political parties be the only ones available.
Hell, even the Swedish Christian conservative party accepts abortion as a necessary freedom.
