I think perhaps the phrase "Black Male" sums up the most serious charge against this criminal suspect. | It seems that he was found guilty of sexual battery, and he's failed to comply with the sex-offender registry rules in Florida. Twice. He's currently incarcerated.
Perhaps "Most Wanted" is a bit over-the-top, but the whole county has less than a quarter-million residents, near 20% of them are college students, and presumably half of those would be young women. Perhaps someone panicked.
I can't find out anything else on this. Just a lot of people pointing and laughing at the "Most Wanted" thing. It even made Leno.
| Harshing my buzz again with facts, Dave? (You are doubtless aware of what kind of well-known bias facts have.)
It seems to me that the newspaper notice might have included the non-trivial information about the sexual battery. As a citizen, I'd be a lot more prone to call in a sighting of this guy if I knew he was some kind of sexual molester, than if I thought he was a otherwise law-abiding driver who simply moved and forgot to tell his state DMV.

In Virginia, non-sexual-predators get six months to notify the DMV of change of address and get an updated license. 48 hours?! Either Florida is a police state or something was different about that guy.
Turned out it was the latter. |

California may have the same kind of regular-driver DMV address change notification rules, for all I know. I do know that they apparently aren't taken very seriously, as with many moves through my lifetime, I've never thought to notify the DMV unless renewing a license, and never heard so much as a squawk. On the other hand, California has had no immediate, dire reason to want to know where I lay down my head each night.
But, yeah, this guy was "different." Apparently in Florida, their DMV is the agency that is tasked to keep track of registered sex offenders, and not just drivers. To the extent this is known to Floridians, they would probably see little humor or irony in the newspaper notice about Mr. Fields.

Hell, people who move to Virginia also get six months to register their cars and get Virginia plates, but I worked with a guy for two years who never changed his vehicle registration (or his driver's license, I imagine). If his car was insured, I bet it would have made a nice mess for him had he gotten into an accident. |

Hey Rat. Can I use that photo on facebook? |
