The so-called Virgin Mary on a playboy cover?
Can't wait for the fallout from this...

Man; she is hot... I understand that God fell for the jail-bait... |
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. One of the comments: This is a kind of hate crime. It's a desecration. To portray the Virgin Mary in this way. Catholics love the Virgin Mary, as people love their mothers and their children. This is an incredibly cruel thing to do to Catholics. Righteous anger is a good thing. I hope the Catholics in Mexico get violent over this. | It is so frightening when people start to view pictures and words as equivalent with violence. If the religion becomes more important than the altruistic message associated with the religion, we have a serious problem.
And what the fuck with hoping that Catholics in Mexico "get violent over this." That amounts to hoping that totally innocent people will be hurt or have their property damaged. It is one thing to hope that the people who are responsible for the photoshoot suffer negative consequences (such as getting fired.) It is another altogether to hope that totally innocent people are hurt over something they had nothing to do with.
Fucked up. Just fucked up. |
