Traditionally, a President-Elect's family is invited to stay in the Blair House, an official residence controlled by the Chief Executive, while preparing for the move to the White House. But this holiday season, Bush says there's no room in that inn.
The Obamas themselves had made little of this unique slap in the face, though they are forced to rent hotel space. US news coverage has been meager. I think it's just another reason to think of Bush as the pettiest and nastiest -- as well as the worst -- President ever.
Now Barack Obama has two "firsts": He's the first African American President-Elect -- and the first President-Elect to be denied access to the Blair House. Coincidence? Nice going, Dubya.

From the article, Mr Obama asked if he could move into Blair House early but was told he can only move in on January 15, the date it is traditionally available to Presidents-elect. | How can you in good concience call Bush a racist based on this. Its a made up story by the media. He is doing nothing different than any other president has done in the past. Read the story. |

I dunno, Robb. Five days seems like such a short time that it's scarcely worth the trouble of moving in.
Does anyone know how soon before taking office past president-elects moved into Blair House?

| Most things I read is that the 15th is a pretty standard date. Where did he stay as a senator? |

Apparently, Cinton and Reagan moved in around the same time Obama wanted to. But it's not a given as far as I can tell. Bush could have offered it to Obama before filling the place up with his friends, but then, that's Bush for you.
And still, I wouldn't make too much of this.
Bush has been pretty good about making the transition as smooth as possible, but it's not news that Bush is very loyal to his friends. Obama is the president elect, but I doubt that he is high on Bush's friends list...
Look at it this way. In twenty days, Bush will be in Crawford Texas, busily rewriting the last eight years of his presidency. Obama will be President of the United States.
The door has already hit Bush in the ass. |

According to this, he stayed alone in a small apartment in DC. They don't give out the address, understandably. And he wasn't much of a party animal, another point in his favor although it cost him some social contacts.

| But that will just serve as another black mark on his presidency, if he does it. How will it look if he pardons himself and Cheney for crimes they haven't been indited for or convicted of yet? It would be tantamount to admitting that he is a criminal. Do you really think he has it in himself to go there?
I hope he does for two reasons. The first one I have already stated, and the second is that it won't protect him from civil suites, which is where I think the action will be, if there is any action.
So yes, I think the door has already hit him in the ass.
