Judge Orders Kevin Trudeau to Pay More Than $37 Million for False Claims About Weight-Loss Book

A federal judge has ordered infomercial marketer Kevin Trudeau to pay more than $37 million for violating a 2004 stipulated order by misrepresenting the content of his book, “The Weight Loss Cure ‘They' Don't Want You to Know About.”

In August 2008, Judge Robert W. Gettleman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois had ordered Trudeau to pay more than $5 million and banned him, for three years, from producing or publishing infomercials for products in which he has an interest. The ruling confirmed an earlier contempt finding, the second such finding against Trudeau in the past four years.

Urged by both the FTC and Trudeau to reconsider aspects of its August order, on November 4 Judge Gettleman amended the judgment to $37,616,161, the amount consumers paid in response to the deceptive infomercials. The judge also revised the three-year ban to prohibit Trudeau from “disseminating or assisting others in disseminating” any infomercial for any informational publication in which he has an interest. On December 11, the court denied Trudeau's request to reconsider or stay this ruling…

If only faith healers would have such judgements rendered against them.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

Yippee-tie-one-on! Jeez, I've grown tired of seeing that rat-faced scumbag pitching his drivel. And shame of the TV stations that air his tripe.
Hope this judgment will shut his sleazy ass down.
Good news, good news indeed.

If he'd been spewing religious false claims behind a pulpit, he'd be untouchable.

But this guy has almost moved on from conman to cult leader. So many suckers bought his "health" book Natural Cures “They” Don't Want You to Know About that a sizable percentage now think of him as a persecuted messiah standing up to government-protected "Big Pharma," who of course want to silence him and protect their huge profits selling expensive treatments instead of holistic and cheap natural remedies. At least, that's the persona he likes to project. But if you consider the large numbers that the vaccine nuts are now beginning to boast, I wouldn't write this guy off as done yet. There are lots of people with deep, misguided resentments of modern medicine, and many of them are still willing and waiting to trust in this guy again. Hell, this judgment will probably only make him seem more credible in their eyes.

Indeed. Following its directions instead of getting modern medical care has probably killed hundreds or even thousands. At least Trudeau will probably be spending the rest of his life paying back the $37 million. He's effectively finished, in my opinion, and serves as a frightening example to other greedy quacks.

Trudeau has quite a dark history of dragging his dirty laundry along the low road. There's lot's of money to be made off of lazy thinkers.
I was surfing the tube a few weeks ago one weekend when, of course, he shows up with yet again another 30 minute info-mercial. Think he was hyping his diet book. Had four pretty ladies seated around him at the table. (Props -- 'Bobbing Betties' nodding their heads up and down in perpetual agreement). Most of them them splayed cleavage out like there's no tomorrow. One was even listed as a recent Playboy Playmate of the Year. Yeah, as if she's a real expert in the field.
I hope he just disappears for the idiot box.

This is what Trudeau has been pushing lately. And as near as I can tell, he is still actively pushing it in infomercial land. I have seen one of them pretty recently.

Kevin Trudeau Now Offering 'Debt Cures'

Master marketer and infomercial maven Kevin Trudeau has a new book out, but he hasn't strayed far from his successful diet
and health book formula, which critics say panders to consumer paranoia.

His new book, coincidentally introduced at the height of the current credit crises, is "Debt Cures
They Don't Want You To Know About."

Consumers who call an 800 number to order a copy are reporting very similar experiences as when they called to order "Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know About." They're finding it very hard to buy just the book.

"I only wanted to order the book, but the young lady kept telling me about a trial for thirty days, and I kept telling her the book only, please," Cynthia, of Mexia, Texas told ConsumerAffairs.com.

Cynthia said in frustration, she told the operator to just cancel the order. But she says the operator told her the book is coming anyway, and will be in her mailbox in three to five weeks. Cynthia is concerned about what else might show up on her charge card…

Still, the judgment against him is a fair piece of change. And it's a judgment against a book similar to the pile of crap that he is pushing now. So I have to wonder if new suits by the FTC will follow.

It's possible that this guy can be beaten down by continual litigation and judgments against him.

What I would like to see is for Trudeau to be pulled into criminal court and locked up for a very long time...

Yep, that 's right...Debt relief crapola.

I can't believe it -- he's on the idiot box right now with a re-run, surrounded by the Bouncing Betties.
I wouldn't mind seeing FCC going after TV stations airing this con-artist's fraud.

Just surfed to the very next local channel....it's Pat Roberston and CBN fundrasing.

What's the difference?

There always seem to be a endless supply of sheeple to throw money at these slimeballs.
