Wherein the creator of the Creation Museum fallacy bemoans the decline of religion in general and the Christian delusion in particular -- a Ham hissy-fit. What, a picture of Charles Darwin on a $10 U.S. bill—along with the words, “In Man we Trust”? Surely, that wouldn't happen in the United States?
Well, it's already happened to some extent in the United Kingdom. British society, including most of its churches, has enthusiastically embraced Darwin's ideas and in essence is trusting in man rather than God. Since 2000, Darwin's image has appeared on England's £10 pound note!
Now, here in America, doesn't the Pledge of Allegiance say “one nation under God”? Yes, but does that statement still largely hold true for this country? Let's look.
America, as you know, was built on the foundation of God's Word—the Bible. Verses like Psalm 40:4 (“Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust”) and Psalm 56:11 (“In God I have put my trust”) led to the phrase “In God We Trust” being placed on U.S. currency.
I also discovered a couple of years ago (when standing in the U.S. Capitol's chamber of the House of Representatives) that a relief sculpture of Moses faces the Speaker of the House (and thus also faces the president when he gives his annual State of the Union address).
These are reminders of how important God's law was in determining the foundational principles for this nation.
But America has changed its foundation.
| Yeah, cry me a river, liar. What is it the Bible says; something about following false prophets, isn't it? That day is approachinng and the likes of you and your ilk roam the land and pollute the national discourse with falsehood at every opportunity. And now you whine like a kicked dog because not everyone, sectarian and secular alike, is buying it.
Oh yeah, cry me a fucking river; I love it!

On a related note, Ham talks about how Attenborough is getting hate mail from creationists, but look how he plays it:
It would be interesting to know what proportion of letters that he gets from creationists actually use such intemperate language. I suspect that it would be a very small number. (Though one harsh, unloving email or letter is one too many.) The implication of his comments is that creationists are people who use hateful language.1 |
You bet he has a footnote for that for which he plays the martyr again:
Of course, evolutionist hate mail/email is common at Answers in Genesis. For example, an atheist named G.G wrote to our website "If there was a hell you would certainly be going there for promoting such wanton mindlessness and comfortable stupidity." I received an email from an evolutionist saying, "I'm glad you are no longer a science teacher. You should be fined and punished for destroying children's minds with creationist lies." Even a so-called evangelical newspaper in the U.K. felt able to publish a letter in December 2008 accusing Ken Ham, AiG -- U.S. president, of "telling creationist lies." While it is shameful that Sir David has received such hate mail (particularly from people claiming to be Christians!), hate mail is certainly not an unusual thing when it comes to charged topics. |
Note that the guy "suspects" that hate mail from creationists (at least to Attenborough) are a "very small number". He provides no actual evidence of that, and as an example of the "common" hate mail that "evolutionists" give to AIG he gives two examples and a mention of an unflattering paper article.
Well, let's see just how rare creationist hate mail really is.
Need I also remind people of the flap that PZ Myers got over the cracker incident?

I love how just accusing Ham of lying and harming children counts as hate mail. Since when is criticism hate? I guess he calls anything negative "hate mail."
Notice too how Attenborough only makes a quick reference to ill tempered and ill-informed letters, while Ham feels the need to provide us with multiple examples. Can't pass up the opportunity to get in a good whine.

Huh. I did a "whois" on both "No Answers in Genesis" and "Answers in Genesis" site. It looks like you're right, but that makes no sense. NoAIG has all sorts of stuff on their site shooting down creationism, specifically Answers in Genesis.
One would think that if AIG owned both domains, they'd shut Stear's site down.

| Right now "noanswersingenesis.org" diverts directly to AiG.

Ah. Here's the reason: The URL to the main page of the "No Answers in Genesis" site is:
http://www.noanswersingenesis.org.au/index.htm
You need the whole URL to get to Stear's site, which is in Australia.

Aha! When I couldn't get to Fil's link above, I simply backspaced over the URL until I got to "org". I missed noticing that "au" part. So it looks as though AiG has preemptively glommed onto plain "noanswersingenesis.org," which is not that unfair a tactic.
