Have you heard about this? What do you think?

WASHINGTON: Anthropologists have uncovered ancient fossil footprints in Kenya dating back 1.5 million years, the oldest evidence yet that our ancestors walked like present-day humans.

It seems interesting. Is that pushing it back a long time ago, or only relatively?

AiG had a pretty ape-shit, apologetic article on this, but I don't see what all the shouting's about. It merely confirms something that was already, if not knoiwn for sure, reasonable to presume.

Consider; these tracks are 1.5 myo. We know that our ancient ancestors have been bipedal for something over 3.5 my, thank you Sweet Lucy . Over time, the foot would evolve from the grasping appendage of a semi-arboreal creature into one more fit to a ground-pounder. It all but had to happen, otherwise we'd still be moving about like baboon troups, sleeping in trees and on cliffs. Or, equally likely, extinct.

It is unfortunate that hominid feet, or parts of them are so rare in the fossil record. A complete, or nearly so, ancient foot just by itself could tell us volumes about it's former owner's appearance, habits and habitat.

An exciting find, though!

Oops ! My bad; the creationist drivel I mentioned was whined forth by ICR, not Aig -- as if there's a hell of a lot of difference:
The Laetoli tracks are not considered human, a conclusion that is not based primarily on diagnostic observations but rather on the evolutionary reasoning that human features should not have existed so long ago in rocks that predate humanity's alleged ancestors. But if they were made by humans, as would be apparent to an unbiased observer, then they present a contradiction to evolutionary assumptions: How could humans have existed prior to the creatures from which they evolved?7

Despite fossil interpretations that deliberately exclude the historical framework provided by God in the Bible, the evidence stubbornly insists that human evolution never took place, and that people were created fully-formed and fully-functional from the beginning.

Laetoli Footprints

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?
