Think I just got a glimpse of two chicks. It's sundown Wednesday, both parents are in the nest. Looks like they've really been piling on the grass in the nest....it's getting to be quite comfy.

Update...no conformation on the second chick. It's snowing now (Saturday afternoon). Local temps to drop tonight down to low 20's f tonight. Brr. Looks like one of the cameras is down and out, the last couple of days, anyway.
Hang in there, Am. Eagle family.

Update...both cameras have been out of commission for over a week now. You can read the updates at the site. One nest camera finally got back on line today. The little chick, from a few weeks ago, is now one big chick now (or dude-chick). Looks like things are going well for the small eagle family. Even one of the long-gone
eggs is still in the nest and intact...

By the way, here's the video of last year's chick fledging (she hops around a lot before leaving right near the end of the 10-minute clip). And here's the video of her return, some 47 minutes later (and then she splits again less than two minutes after that).

That must be very disappointing to you researchers, as it is for this observer. Then, again, these developments are ultimately in the jaws/claws/talons of nature, which doesn't care a fig for human attachment to "adopted" animals. Better luck with the next nesting! And thanks for the updates.

The site was redesigned in March, so there was a change in URL:

http://www.suttoncenter.org/pages/live_eagle_camera

Both cameras apparently take about 30 seconds to a minute to come online.

Yeah, thanks podcat. I hadn't updated the new website's link here about this season's nest until this latest bad news about the eaglet.

I've read there's been umpteen classrooms of kids that would log on to the site, checking on the nest's progress. One teacher earlier reported a 'unreachable' kid in her grade school class really "came out of his shell" himself showing real interest with the goings-on with the eagle nest. He inquired about other sites/critter-cams and the like; and of how he could get more involved. Good deal.
Tough cookies with this fledgling's loss...a real lesson that reality is no Disney movie.

Reminds me of an "adoption" I saw in the past.

ALL OF OUR IWS EAGLES HAVE STAR QUALITY BUT ONE MEMBER OF THE CLASS OF 2006 IS TRULY A CELEBRITY. MEET A-46 AKA STEPHEN, JR. HE IS THE ADOPTED SON OF STEPHEN COLBERT, HOST OF THE COLBERT REPORT.

Oh, yeah, and : http://iws.org/

They have maps tracking the eagles and webcams there. It's in the main menu under "Interactive".

Super! I just a glimpse of the three Calif. nests. Looks like it's two chicks per nest. Westend nest....Sundown now with bright, bright sun on the lake's horizon. Eagle just landed within ten seconds of going to full screen. Looks like he brought a fish.
Cool beans! Nestcam even has audio stream.

It's one of my hopes that when I'm living in the Philippines, I can get a chance to see the magnificent Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jeffery), aka the Monkey-Eating Eagle. This eagle is the largest eagle in the world, and is very distinctive, both in appearance, and in relation to other eagles.

Here's some more....
http://iws.org/

Look at the upper left, under "Inneractive". There's a audio stream, which is cool hearing a rare squak and the ever ubiquitous songbirds.
