Wow! Okay, I sent a letter to YouTube. I also posted this on Facebook. |

You'd think YouTube had learned a thing or two about taking down contributors based upon fake complaints from woos and fundamentalists. Instead, they go right ahead and ban one of the largest and important skeptical organization out there. One that is careful to get their facts and rights lined up in a row.
Apparently, JREF had all its videos on YouTube alone. In the future, JREF will need to spread the videos around other hosts, no matter what the outcome is with YouTube.
All JREF is saying so far (above link) is:Problem with YouTube Latest JREF News Written by Jeff Wagg Monday, 30 March 2009 12:19
Our YouTube account has been suspended, which means all of the Randi Speaks and other JREF videos are temporarily unavailable. We're researching the problem, and will be back online as soon as possible. Thanks very much for your patience. |

There has been a longstanding "feud" between the JREF and such persons as Uri Geller who are trying to determine what get seen on YouTube. Videos have been posted and pulled of a regular basis. The Gellers of the world have the upper hand legalistically in this because they can claim to be suffering potential monetary loss. The YouTube lawyers will reflexively knee-jerk in favour of safety and legalistic caution, since YouTube could be included in litigation in the event of a suit against the JREF.
When money is involved, who is correct becomes a secondary consideration.
I don't think there are any surprises here. |

I hope to hell the National Center for Science Education doesn't get it's YouTube channel taken down.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
Another example of this guy's lunacy here. |

Many people 'flag' videos they do not like as a mean of censorship. And if you have too many flagged videos, your account can get suspended so a coordinated campaign can get somebody banned.
Youtube is not very selective, I don't even think that they really check. They just want to cover their ass (including as far as copyrights are concerned) with the minimum of efforts/cost.
Now, it seem like the channel are back online. It seem like they had been banned due to 'copyright infringement'.
It is difficult to make any conclusion at this point, but filling false DMCA claims has been a censorship tactic for creationists in the past, Thunderfoot (all hail the bunny) has had to deal with that in the past. And, I can't help but remember that the last 'Randi speaks' was a questioning the Bible. |
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. That's great. So it was neither an "attack" on JREF, nor YouTube stupidity, but legitimate copyright violations. JREF is fixing those.
My "this insane action" comment jumped the gun.
