So are parasitic fungi.

Seems that now that Ted Stephens has had his case dropped due to prosecutor malfeasance, Alaska Republicans are now wanting his Democrat replacement to resign so they can have another election. The fact that Stephens was/is a convicted felon is not withstanding.

These scuz-buckets care nothing for the welfare of the country, only power over it, and we've seen what happens when they get it. My advice to Senator Mark Begich is not to resign, but to tell them to go piss in their hats. Their crook lost in an honest election and it is time for the bastard to be thankful to still be walking around without an orange jump suit, and to just shut the fuck up about it.

This is starting to be fun; the hockey idiot mom chimes in:
Take the relationship between Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin and former Sen. Ted Stevens. When things were at their gloomiest for the senator in October after he was found guilty on seven felony counts, the vice presidential candidate, joined with many other Republicans, and called for Stevens to resign his Senate seat and not seek re-election.

“After being found guilty on seven felony counts, I had hoped Senator Stevens would take the opportunity to do the statesman-like thing and erase the cloud that is covering his Senate seat. He has not done so,” Palin said in a late October statement. She added that if Stevens were re-elected in November, he should “step aside to allow a special election to give Alaskans a real choice of who will serve them in Congress.”

Since Attorney General Eric Holder's Tuesday decision to drop the Department of Justice's corruption conviction against Stevens and not to pursue a new trial, some Republicans have begun calling for newly-elected Democratic Sen. Mark Begich to resign and face Stevens in a special election. On Thursday, Palin joined in those calls.
At this point I must remind: it was the Bush DOJ that prosecuted Stevens! No wonder there was malfeasance, eh?

I couldn't believe it when that turkey got elected! How'd that all end up, anyway? I've forgotten.

Nothing really, congressional leadership kicked him off the House Ways and Means Committee. He was indicted in June 2007, and he tried to appeal all counts on the basis of legislative immunity by the Speech or Debate Clause of the Constitution, which was rejected in November 2008, and he is supposed to finally go to trial in May of this year if there are no further delays. He lost his re-election campaign in 2008.

WASHINGTON - In a series of pre-trial motions for the upcoming corruption trial of former Rep. William Jefferson, the Justice Department is asking permission to show the jury a copy of the government's indictment while Jefferson's lawyers want some government evidence excluded for fear it would "prejudice" jurors.
Huh? What the hell do thay think that any evidence, presented by either side, is supposed to do?

Thanks for the update!

I'll bet Stevens is happy that he voted to approve Alberto Gonzales as attorney general. What a happy twist of fate for Stevens! Or was it just good judgment on his part?

Of course, if Gonzales were still the head of the justice department, Steven's ass would also still be in that particular sling.

Stevens walks because the current department of justice happens to be honest and understands the rule of law. I have no doubt that Stevens would have voted against Eric Holder if he had been given the chance to.

This whole affair is deliciously ironic, isn't it? You just can't make this kind of shit up.

So now he wants his seat back, as though getting off on a technicality is the same as being found innocent of the charges. Is there anyone in that party who is in touch with reality anymore?

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?
