Ok, she is a conservative Christian -- so what?

Ok, she has recapped knockers -- so what?

Ok, she doesn't agree with gay marriage -- so what?

Ok, she is going to guest-host a FOX show -- again: so freakin' what?

Having thought about it for some time, I've come to the conclusion that Ms. Prejean has been getting a bad rap from an assortment of left-wing assholes. The above link, virtually a cry in the wilderness, points that out. Really, it ain't as though she was caught selling crank & crack & her ass back stage. As far as anyone knows, she has done nothing wrong (aside from hanging with Trump, but whaddahell?).

If pictures of Prejean secretly getting married to a woman turn up, that would be a different story. Until that happens, those who don't share Prejean's views should keep in mind that it's possible to disagree with a woman's ideas without mentioning her breasts.*

But not without staring at them.

I agree with your every point, Filthy. However...

... Anyone who deliberately and successfully propels herself into the public limelight, displaying both her body and talents in order to achieve money and personal fame, has made herself a public target. It simply goes with the territory. That she then makes statements that insult a large minority group within her state (a minority which is still feeling battered by Proposition 8) simply makes this more certain.

Perhaps many on the left, in and outside California, have noticed that the right for generations has been consciously promoting ignoramuses as political spokespeople and as politicians. Reagan, Bush, Palin, "Joe" "the Plumber," the dumber they are, the more attractive they become to the right in their never-ending search for someone to bring back the populist appeal of George Bush, they guy that people felt comfortable with because they thought he was too stupid to be able to trick anyone.

When Miss Prejean voiced her homophobia, she became another potential Sarah Palin. Some on the left may have become quite a bit proactive with their trigger fingers, forgetting that their very hostility may help to provide sympathy for the very simpleton about whom they worry.

Personally, I feel no sympathy for Miss Prejean. She put herself in her position with her body and mouth. Nor do I worry that she'll be the next GOP candidate for US Senate. The Republicans should be encouraged to back more folks like Palin. I liked the results last time.

So I agree with you in principle. I wasn't and will not be part of the chorus of dismay about Prejean holding her meaningless title. But damned if I care a fig for her or her plastic feelings.

"Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. You know what, in my country, in my family, I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that's how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman."

Regardless of the wince-worthy phrasing, SatTatt's immediate reaction upon seeing what Prejean said was, "What, that's it?"
Perez Hilton asked:
“Vermont recently became the 4th state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?”

Just because she worded it in a really friendly manner doesn't change the fact that the obvious meaning of her answer was that she advocates marriage laws, nationwide, to reflect the values of her family and her personally. She wasn't asked what her personal or family's feelings on the issue were. She was asked what she thinks the law should be state by state.

Calling someone a slut or a "dumb bitch," as pageant judge Perez Hilton did, or pointing out that she has fake breasts, isn't the same as explaining why you disagree with her, although it is much easier.
He didn't just do that. On his blog he gave an example of what he would have considered an acceptable answer - if she had said that it should be left up to each individual state to decide.

Look, if these women's opinions and ability to articulate them isn't part of the judging, then why are such questions asked at all? Currently, some US states have already legalized gay marriage. Polls have been steadily moving toward acceptance of gay marriage in recent years, to the point where more people now support it than don't. If the idea behind this beauty contest is that the winner should reflect the values of society today, then her answer (which essentially states that her personal values should be made law for everyone) was a failure and could validly be used against her in the contest. Who cares that she was honest - the point of the question wasn't to check her honesty. It was to judge her by her opinion and ability to express her opinion.

It rather amazes me that people care that much about this stupid incident. It should have been a totally trivial incident, but instead it has been blown up beyond reasonable proportion. What I'm more amazed about than anything else is the stupidity of her answer, regardless of her opinion. She says it is "great" that Americans can choose, when in most states they most certainly cannot choose between a gay or straight marriage. I guess by that she means that it is great that in this country gay people can move in together and live as if they are married without fear of being arrested or executed, as they still can in many other countries? Great. Then she says that "in my country" marriage is between a man and women, which is clearly no longer the case in both law and popular opinion. This contest primarily serves to reinforce the stereotype that beautiful women are dumb. This controversy also shows that beauty contests are pretty shallow affairs which use a lot of glitzy facade to cover over the fact that they are nothing more than soft core porn (porn as in something with the primary intention to sexually arouse.) Nothing wrong with porn IMO, but let's not pretend these contests are more than that.

Yeah. Me too. As a whole we are just too damn enamored with celebrity. Even extremely minor celebrities. I had no idea who Perez Hilton was until this incident. And I hope to soon forget that I know anything about him.

Well; I don't care about the whole story, it's dumb and empty. It really only came up because the Right is desperately looking for a martyr.

My opinion (be warned that am I going to take a position that is not mine and sound very paternalistic/mysoginistic) is that she is going out of her way to promote superficiality and encourage 'lust'. that's her whole carrier plan and the reasons of her two investments!

As said I have no problems with that. But she should have. It's not really a Biblical behaviour...
So, I find the way she uses Christianity to make judgement on other people to be very hypocritical of her, and sadly representative of the Christian Right's attitude.

And that's all I have to say about it.

I love the word booby, just about as much as the actual piece of anatomy it refers too.

The word is fun and bouncy and rolls on the tongue...

Yes. It has a woody sound to it.
