Or: This is the day the pus-guts have their picnic! Last week we reported on Sheriff Joe's recent photo op with a clutch of neo-Nazis who came out to counter-protest at a march held to raise a stink about Arpaio's racial-profiling ways.
Now Stephen Lemon, the Phoenix New Times reporter who dug much of this up, follows up with an amazing in-depth report on Arpaio and his associations with local white supremacists -- particularly an outfit called United for a Sovereign America.

I've heard that Arpaio's jurisdiction, for all its 'get tough' emphasis, has the highest recidivism rate in the U.S. Can anyone confirm or deny? |

Have heard that, and that he has a low rate... No idea what the truth is, but I suspect it isn't much different for his county than anywhere else.

Why are the Nazis holding a National Socialism banner, I thought Nazis were fascists?
Ah, according to Wikipedia, National Socialism was the official name of the Nazi party in Germany, even though most scholars do consider it to be a form of fascism. I was confused for a minute. Of course, Rush Limbaugh will probably still make the claim that this banner proves they are liberals.

Historically, the Nazi party had tied to the left, although it never was very pronounced (they never allied themselves with the soviet Union or the communist parties or Germany). But it quickly changed when Hitler arrived and took control, he essentially provided the party with his own personal ideology which was very conservative. Once he got into power, he quickly got rid of the old guard. |
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. In my mind, I imagine a political spectrum in which the very far right and the very far left loop around and meet one another. The very extremes of leftist or rightist politics are usually nearly identical in essence. They are usually ultra-authoritarian personality cults of a single leader, fueled by paranoia and policed by thuggish enforcers. It's no great feat for extremist groups to change little bits of ideology and to cross the line from technically "left" to technically "right" (or vice versa.) In Germany, Hitler did it with the National Socialists, in the US, "Lyn Marcus" led his Labor Committees to become his little gang of Lyndon LaRouche fascists.

| I try to think of politics a little less one-dimensional, and more like very many dimensions. There are so many separate aspects that applies. Both socialists and fascists can be pro- or con- environmentalism, for example. Pro- or con- freedom of information... |

| Right. Essentially, every political issue could be considered analogous to another dimension. It's hard, however, to keep a twelve-dimension matrix in one's mind, so I usually think in terms of as few as possible, in two or three political "dimensions." Often the additional issues are minor considerations, anyway, since all political issues are not equal in the sense of depth, width, and height.

Dr. Mabuse, Rush Limbaugh is a political commentator and drug addict. (Specifically, Oxycotin) The festering bag of fetid puss spews a few facts and surrounds them with political commentary.
The political commentary portion goes something like this
Socialists = liberal = Communist = Democrats (aka Demodummies, Demoncrats, America-hating feminists)
Now, irrespective of the opinion of certian rotund, draft-dodging, drug addicted commentators, Socialism is a form of governance and is neither conservative or liberal.
