Yeah... I agree. You know, I have a crazy idea, but Science Pricktion does act a bit like a prick (as his name suggests). And his account was created only two days after the last post from a self proclaimed troll, one whose all but admitted purpose was to earn himself a ban... I don't want to seem paranoid but can somebody to some IP-checking?

He was not. I was not more convinced than anybody else by the backroom dealing that went on, but still, a lot of people seem pretty prompt to abandon the 'innocent until proven guilty' and I find it surprisingly annoying... |

If we're getting a bunch of wanna-be mod-cops showing up and trying to get themselves banned to demonstrate that we're "petty" by their standards (which appear to be hypocritical), so be it. They'll either get bored and leave or we'll toss them as trolls with nothing useful to add towards our mission soon enough. We withstood a "Total Truth Takeover" from 9/11 truthers just fine, we can handle this new bunch of posers, too.
If, on the other hand, these new folks aren't associated with that bunch, well... the same conditions hold true. Either they'll figure out how to get along here, or they won't. So, let us (the staff) be concerned with the IP addresses. Give us the benefit of a doubt, and assume that we're on top of things. If you've got more specific concerns, feel free to PM us. |

I do not consider my own private opinion to be of great import. I would certainly have a completely different attitude toward both evidence and the law, were I on the jury of an accused pedophile, as I did when I was on a murder jury. But my private opinion is that Jacko was probably an active child molestor, who would probably be in jail -- and still alive -- had he not the money to throw at his legal problems.

Yep. All tabloid, all the time. Fuck CNN, MSNBC, and FAUX.
Ratings driven "news" is not based on any type of actual fact based journalism.
Several noteworthy and important events have happened in the last few days and most people don't know because all they are hearing is how great this now-dead pedophile was.

I am becoming a little weary of hearing about Michael Jackson, and not for the first time. I didn't care for his music and his personal habits were atrocious, so I'd suggest saying a prayer, lighting a candle, wearing sackcloth & ashes, slaughtering a chicken, sacrificing a virgin, or whatever spiritual conniption gets you off, and move on.
For just this once, I'll agree with Chief Justice Whitebread Roberts: "I hate sounding like one of Mr. Jackson's records, constantly repeating the same refrain, but I recommend we not approve this letter," Roberts wrote. "Frankly I find the obsequious attitude of some members of the White House staff toward Mr. Jackson's attendants, and the fawning posture they would have the president of the United States adopt, more than a little embarrassing." |
There are a multitude of other, vastly more important things happening in the world than the demise of an addled, junked-out, moderately talented popinjay.
Alas, Jackson will have been mouldering in the ground for some considerable time before we finally hear the last of it, if ever.

The fact that they were paid off does not necessarily mean MJ actually did molest the kid. The only thing it means is that we will probably never know the truth. And never get a court ruling, one way or the other.
On the other hand, if the kid really was molested, and the kid's parents accepts a million dollars for reparation instead of seeing Jackson in prison, how is that different from being the kid's pimp?

| In a word: tolerance. Some people who take chronic narcotics for chronic pain problems are on astonishingly high doses, yet are seemingly unimpaired. (A few of my patients are in this group. Because there seems to be no other option. It's definitely not something I strive for.)
Big problem among celebrities is probably that doctors want to keep them as patients ($$, cachet, maybe hoping for referrals from them or to be hired on full-time like MJ's doc). Maybe the celebrity can also pull trips like "you have to give me this, otherwise I won't be able to perform & it'll be your fault" - and claim, rightly, that millions of dollars may be on the line if their show doesn't go on. I suspect doctors in this kind of situation are less likely to draw the line & just say no. Anna Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson - sounds like this is an area that needs more oversight. (Cue libertarians to chime in...)
Like HalfMooner, after surgeries I found that a low dose of narcotic packed a big wallop, & not a pleasant one either. For those of us who don't experience a "high" from these nauseating sedating meds, it's really hard to imagine why someone would want to stay on them & escalate the dose.

I'd have made a fine junky, but for the fact that I feared addiction and wanted off these drugs asap after my operation. (I only wish my nicotine addiction were as easy to kick!)

Innocent until proven guilty is a byproduct of our Skepticism, though I will say that MJ made his own bed when he had children sleeping in it. Perception is reality for most folks. |
