Or is it just we wish?

According to some disturbing reports, it seems that those supersititious idiots aren't as out in the cold as that whiny cartoonist presents.

I had higher hopes for Obama, but at this point, I can only despair of the kind of president who would consult the Pope on bioethics. I'm beginning to feel he will not hesitate to sacrifice reason on the altar of religious conformity.

Too bad that moron doesn't know, or more likely, doesn't care about his own country's history, otherwise, he'd not have made this cartoon.

He's obviously ignorant about what the original pledge of allegiance said.

In 1954, Congress after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus, added the words, 'under God,' to the Pledge. The Pledge was now both a patriotic oath and a public prayer.

Bellamy's granddaughter said he also would have resented this second change. He had been pressured into leaving his church in 1891 because of his socialist sermons. In his retirement in Florida, he stopped attending church because he disliked the racial bigotry he found there.

Note the other f*** ups the guy has in the Pledge in his cartoon...

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

Yeah, I, too am not happy that virtually every office in the United States, elected or appointed, is filled with an avowed theist, usually a Christian, as is Francis Collins.

PZ is right about the dangers of filling a political science office with a fuzzy-thinking guy who will doubtless use his position, as he always has, to promote theism, and whose sloppy thinking is likely to cause him to distort funding of science.

On the other hand, Collins replaces a regime at the NIS that has enforced the Bush ban on fetal stem cell research, and has not advocated for the use of condoms for the control of HIV/AIDS. Collins' appointment is a lot better than, say, Gov. Perry's appointment of the latest Creationist to the Texas Board of Education.

We could have much better, but we could -- and did -- have much, much worse. Like the sort of fanatical fundamentalism that cartoonist represents.

For some real fun, I posted some correspondence that I had with that guy, on another forum.

You can click on the name of the thread in the corner to read the whole thread; it's not very long but it is kind of entertaining.

What an idiot that guy is. Not even a tiny attempt to address you questions. Instead he just calls you a nut case and demands his god be capitalized. He's preaching to the choir, and even some of them must be feeing uncomfortable.
