I'm going to gently, tentatively, and somewhat uncertainly disagree with this.

I don't think it's possible to persuade true deniers themselves with any evidence. They are simply not interested in evidence, but only in the control of their flocks.

The every best we can do as critical thinkers is to erode the supporting demographic base away from such deniers. The constant worry of fundy leaders is the way their educated young people are leaving the evangelical movement in droves. Ken Ham, in fact, has addressed this "problem," but doesn't have any practical answer.

I think that these smart young people who are breaking their Biblical literalism programming, and other young people who were never so programmed, should be the major target of scientific and critical thinking evangelists. Lay out the evidence and discuss it. That works for smart people. Nobody does that better than Richard Dawkins.

Eventually, I think, the New Atheists and other pro-science people will knock enough of the human props out from beneath the theocrats that their movement will become a mere nuisance.

I completed reading The Greatest Show on Earth a few weeks ago.

Like Dude, I sometimes found Dawkins' sudden changes of subject narratively jarring.

Given that the evidence for evolution comes from so many widely disparate fields of science, I have no idea how Dawkins could have done much better than he did in presenting the evidence. At least it all is logically held together by leading to the conclusion that evolution happened, is happing, and will continue to happen as long as life exists.

Perhaps even the jarring transitions of narrative themselves actually serve to hammer home how many fields of science support the fact of evolution.

Thanks. I was planning on keeping a low profile, but the book (and my awesome wife (I'm a lucky man)) spoiled it.
