Digby says that this might be the most disturbing thing she has ever seen.

I myself lf found it nauseating on a couple of levels -- anything having to do with stupid TV shows and Tom DeLay does that.

Tom DeLay is possibly the most rebarbative, miasmal, execrebal and utterly despicable human being to ever hold office in the US Congress. For this mephitic piece of excrement to present himself as a grinning, dancing clown performing on a public stage in the guise of an entertainer is demeaning to the very concept of television entertainment.

A dismally mundane show to begin with, Dancing With the Stars becomes offensive in the extreme when a malicious political assassin is presented as the "star". A pandemic pox on their programming!!

You forgot "Felon."

I know, I know, I should have said "alleged," but you and I know that in DeLay's case, that is just a legal nicety. He'd "steal the pennies from a dead man's eyes," and probably already has done.

I liked Dancing with the Stars when it first came on, but then, when Christie Yamaguchi was finished with it, I lost interest. I rather suspect that I'm not alone in that.

Oh, gods, my eyes, my EYES!

Seriously, just from a dancing viewpoint, Delay should have stuck to intricate but traditional ballroom dancing, and left out any attempts at disco or otherwise hip stuff.

Tom Delay has committed many crimes, but this is worthy of the death penalty.

Nothing changes when corrupt politicians are involved....

But DeLay's smart enough to realize he has zero chance of winning this season's competition, and has taken control of the situation by gerrymandering the judges table and removing the colorful Roberto Benigni sound-alike Bruno Tonioli, who labeled DeLay's performance "half magic, half tragic," telling Texas's dancing fool "You're crazier than Sarah Palin!" He's had Tonioli replaced with ex-American Idol judge Paula Abdul, who can find something to love about anyone, even angry, arrogant, corrupt, polarizing, hate-mongering partisan dictators like DeLay. The Hammer's also maneuvering to oust Len Goodman and have Palin installed in the judges seat instead. Palin is no stranger to dance. She's been side-stepping reality since she entered politics.

Old habits die hard, eh?

Absolutely astounding that a two-bit disgraced thug politico like DeLay could have a single appearance on a TV show and proceed within hours to take complete control of the show's producer, manipulate the judges and pack the jury, persuade an insane woman, Paula Abdul, to be a judge, and bring balin' Sarah Palin back from her dog and pony show in Hong Kong to ensure his victory as a toxic terpsichorean dancing badly enough to nauseate a Komodo dragon.

This supernatural event just demonstrates that the Republicans have indeed bribed God to support them and theirs, and the poor Democrats haven't a chance -- they are merely dancing with the Devil!

Making Varanus komodoensis snap it's lunch is a good trick indeed, but if anyone could manage it....

But I've been wondering: why? I haven't been wondering very hard because, unless DeLay does us the sublime favor of becoming the snapped-lunch of that same, excellent lizard, I don't much care.

But doesn't seem an odd thing for an indicted politico facing long-stir to do? Especially one who can dance only slightly better than I, and that's nothing to be proud of? If it were me, I'd be huddling up with lawyers and stacking juries, and bribing judges; y'know, all that good legal maneuvering stuff, not making an ass of myself on the toob. Sending death threats to witnesses, that's the ticket!

But here we have him, wasting precious time out on the stage making odd gyrations with some chick -- wait, I think I have it! Like a lot of Bible floggers, he's likely in the denial closet and wants to dispel any rumors that might get started before he goes to court. His future cellmate might get the wrong idea.....

Filthy.....

One could only hope that if this asshole's asshole finds visitors to entertain while incarcerated, they may be of the John Holmes variety, dripping with various STI's.

Actually, the answer to your and Agita's question as to why?, is answerable by three words: Texas Politics and Money. He's a high-powered crook in a state bursting with corrupt Republican politics. He laid enough markers while Hammering his way through the House of Representatives to buy reprieve for any imaginable crime!

The story is that Dancing with the Stars pays the losers way up in the six figures for stumbling around the stage for a few minutes. DeLay needs lots of loot to limit the litigation!

I think it's called the Blagoyevich Maneuver.
