Apparently the administration of shrub jr. thought they could be turned into frogs with incantations, so they didn't want the kiddies of the future learning how to do it. Believe me, if they had been turned into anurans it would have been a step up on the evolutionary ladder.

Small surprise, really. After all, if one believes in religious myth, why not witchcraft? The most prominent example current is the cretin Palin, followed by a long, ignoble procession of superstitious, political clods, mostly Republican.

Today, Bush is a political corpse, which, in his case, is almost as good as being an actual one. Perhaps Obama might choose to give Rowling the well-deserved award, but he's pretty well indoctrinated by some faith or other too, so I'm not holding my breath.

Really? I was rather quite surprised. Now I could understand if the Bush administration didn't give an award because their base thinks that it promotes sorcery. But they really thought that?

I didn't understand when this whole thing came about, and I still don't understand now, what they mean by "promoting sorcery". Is it just that kids go around playing witch are warlock? Please tell me that's it...

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.
