It always does....

I have taken the Finnish (sauna) version of the sweat lodge and found it to be most refreshing, once I'd recovered from the stress of drastic temperature changes. But you have to work yourself up to it -- you don't get on the highest bench, where the real heat is, the first time out. Also, you don't do it with more than just a very few other people. These New Age idiots evidently don't like to learn about something before they dive into it, preferring to put that minor formality off until they are going comatose. Doubtless, it adds adventure to the thrill.
Questions About ‘Sweat Lodge’ Rite Where 2 Died

JOHN DOUGHERTY and GREGORY ROTH
Published: October 10, 2009

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — As Arizona authorities on Saturday investigated how two people died and more than a dozen others were overtaken during a ceremony at a New Age retreat near Sedona, questions arose about the circumstances surrounding the simulated Native American rite.

Two people died and an estimated 19 others were taken to hospitals after being overcome while sitting in the sauna-like sweat lodge at Angel Valley Retreat Center, near Sedona, Ariz.
Another person who was at the “sweat lodge” at Angel Valley Spiritual Retreat, about six and a half miles from West Sedona, was listed in critical condition at Flagstaff Medical Center.

I knew a guy years ago who was a Cree shaman, and he invited me to a sweatlodge. Never got around to it, but apparently the women traditionally all sit around topless. That's an incentive.

Indeed.

I enjoy a Finnish sauna a few times a month. But those aren't cramped spaces like the sweat-lodge. And not practically air-tight like this particular lodge, but well ventilated.
