Television evangelist Oral Roberts dies

Meh. I thought he was already dead. I’m not sure why though…

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

Old Anal Roberts...that "900 foot tall Jebus" must have called his nappy ass home.
A real fundie scumbag; although he did add considerable comic relief during the fall of the
PTL Club (Jim and Tammy Bakker) back in the spring of '87 with his plea for millions of dollars or
"god will call him home", his dreams of 900 foot tall Jebus, claims of raising the dead, etc.
Hellova lot of dummies kept feeding his ministry money over the years.

The down side is that we won't have Oral (what sort of a clown names his kid "Oral?") to kick around anymore. The up side is that we won't have Oral to kick around anymore. It's been a right good while since we've kicked him around, anyway.

But not to worry; a replacement will appear before us soon enough.

Re his name (actually his middle name, according to the Wikipedia entry): Oral is "a variant of Orel (Latin), and the meaning of Oral is 'golden'." A famous pitcher has the variant name.

As for expressing our thoughts on Roberts, like most of you I really couldn't care less about the guy. And for skeptics, anyone who tries to raise money through something like faith healing (and his rather sick I need $8 million or God will call me home stunt), he's a guy to be held in some contempt. But I'd hope that we could at least keep some of that contempt on-target and above the belt, lest it provide fodder for those who look to paint atheists and the like as particularly crass in such things.

And finally, when I was younger, the Oklahoma high school cross country state championships were held at the ORU campus annually. It was quite nice, if sort of gaudy with the brass everywhere. But for some reason, that resonates positively with me.

Now you've got me worried that Roberts took enough dough with him to bail himself out!

The only thing that could make this more disturbing would be if Oral was holding a couple stacks of bills instead of what he is holding.
