I'm thinking of calling this dork Boomerang because like that famous Australian frisbee, he keeps coming back.
I really can't fathom why.....

Unfortunately, there's no effective block against this loser. Unless of course we take out the big gun and ban every IP-address from Canada.
The problem is that there are SFN members (and anonymous readers other than Markuze) in Montreal whom we don't want to ban.
So we simply have to live with the little troll trowing his feces here until his ISPs decide to pull the plug on him.

Well, we could always keep him around to toy with in the cruelest of manners. It'd be fun. 
I suppose not *sigh*. In these decadent times of decorum and consideration, that sort of thing is frowned upon. A pity, really.
Oh for those glorious days of yore, when troll-bashing was the Sport of Skeptics and any that could not defend themselves for whatever reason -- usually stupidity -- were in for a verbal pillorying that would fill the black heart of a figurative Puritan with pride and envy.
On the other hand, I'm not sure that Dennis would make a very good skeptic's toy. He seems feisty enough but comes off as a one-trick pony with a limited vocabulary and small imagination. It would be like shooting a fish in a barrel; a dry barrel. Where then, is the sport; the fierce joy of mauling the fuckwitted?
On the gripping hand, though, his presence might attract others a bit smarter and more creative. Soon there could be enough for everybody to play!
How lame Dennis is when compared to HYBRID, bigbrain and Jerome da Gnome? Now those were trolls to contend with -- gods how I miss them!
I suppose all we can do now is wait for Denny's next ridiculous incarnation, spit on it, and watch it vanish not quite as mysteriously as it appeared.

I freely confess to being significantly computer-challenged, so this may appear to be a stupid question, Mab, but could you elaborate a little bit on the technical reasons that an effective block cannot be set up to prevent Marcuze from even entering the site? I do not have the background necessary to understand the basic problem in selectively blocking an unwanted visitor.
From time to time in surfing the Web, I run into a website that displays a message such as:| ENTRANCE FORBIDDEN! PRIOR AUTHORIZATION NECESSARY TO VIEW CONTENTS OF THIS WEBSITE! |
How is this accomplished in the sense that certain persons can be equipped with a code or password that allows access to a website, while the site remains closed to those not posessing the entry key?
Why is this method (whatever it is) not applicable to SFN?
Having grown to maturity long before computers were commonplace and the internet was pervasive, I have never understood much of the arcane workings of the machine itself nor of the the massive information and social network (Internet) that is it's environment.
Courses in Computer Science did not exist when I went to college. (That was 1945. I am 81)
Why is it difficult to block Markuze from entering SFN's site?

The problem with blocking Markuze is that he changes IP address from time to time.
DSL-equipment usually keep the same IP address for quite some time (a little depending on how long his computer is turned on), but for a short time-span just banning his IP-address is an effective block. But every now and then, when the DSL-modem is communicating with his ISP's DNS-server, his computer is assigned a new IP-number from all the numbers his ISP has available.
Right now, there are no other means available to identify his computer. (Technically there is, but such functionality is unavailable to us. I also do not want to give clues about how that is done, because the next step is to circumvent such a block...)
The short answer is thus: Once we identify his IP we can block him until he changes IP. (DSL-connections are most often dynamically assigned, some times it's suficient to reboot the computer) But once he has changed his IP address, that blocked IP address is later assigned to another innocent bystander who no longer access SFN. This we like to avoid.
We could block all IP addresses from Videotron Canada, but then none of the users from that network could access our site.

Thank you Mab. That clears up a lot of my questions. I read between your lines that you may be able ultimately to outwit him. That is very interesting, and also very informative.
I must admit that I envy your computer expertise. If I had time, I would return to college and take two years of computer science. But all those damn bills would accumulate uncontrollably and I would slow down the economic recovery! Oh well.....!

I didn't forget him; I just never figured him for a troll. He had some very strange, even anti-social, ideas, and wasn't hesitent to voice them, but there was a certain off-the-wall honesty about him. He never got abusive and, wonder of wonders, he never did get banned. He's another I wish would come back. Verlch was fun.

There are several ways to accomplish this. Here's one solution:
Somewhere there is a page (maybe hidden) where you enter a user-name and/or password. After validating your identity, the pages saves a cookie with some pre-defined code. Next time you access the "forbidden website" it reads this cookie and recognize the code.
Or it's a simple server access login on the site you visit. In that case you also need to provide user name and password.

Because we want the public accessing our website. Setting passwords and stuff is for keeping things secret, and we want to share our ideology and discussions.
But we do require a user name and password for writing posts on the board. That's where we have login. But we want the entire site easily accessible, and to make the registration process easy and quick, the registration is automated. Which makes it easy for Dennis Markuse to create a new user and spam us.
There is the option of letting an SFN-admin activate every new user before he/she can start posting. But such activation require manual work, takes time before someone has time to do it, and Admins can still be fooled.
Why is it difficult to block Markuze from entering SFN's site?

As I've said above. Blocking Markuze is fairly easy. It's not-blocking everyone else at the same time that is the tricky part. The web-browser sends information to the server when it asks for web-pages, but that information is unfortunately not computer-specific. We can't "read the license-plate" of his computer, only what make and model of browser and operating system he's using. But that info is insufficient to single him out among any and all other users.
