With only telescopes and radio waves to work with, the only credible evidence they have, astromomers say they have figured out the universe. They expect us to believe that the universe is expanding based on the theories of a red shift applied to the diminishing sound dopler effect when neither has been demonstrated in outer space. If that pipe dream wasn't enough, now we're expected to believe in a big bang and black holes that can't be seen.

In spite of his years (I haven't and won't check his bio), cantbe323 is pretty immature. Yet almost every post receives to many replies, like he's really saying something or making a real point, which is almost never the case. I believe he thinks himself, a puppeteer. SS |

SS | Actually, he's more like the Pied Piper! There's a certain fascination about his utter naïveté and infantile ignorance that draws one to respond - much as a crawling insect compels many to step on it, despite the fact that it is doing no harm.
It's the siren song of senescent simplicity - just look at the folks that feel compelled to call me names! |

Judging by the hour he shows up in here each day, he might well be holding down a job or even be a student. Which lends his stated age of 83 (but who's counting?) open to question.

But plenty claim to have a good understanding of it. You reject red shift, but for a pretty lame reason.
The evidence for the big bang is pretty compelling, and has predictive power, too. I'm not sure that you can just hand-wave that away.
As for black holes, I'm not a versed enough to talk on that. It certainly was predicted by general relativity and I'm guessing that the evidence for them comes as well from seeing the interaction of the gravity well with observable matter. |

cantbe323, sounds like you really haven't delved into the science of modern astronomy and the amazing discoveries they've been churning out the past many decades. Such as, from nine years ago on black holes/event horizons... http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2001/ast12jan_1.htm What's your take on the NASA claims in the above link?

Yes, but if they can't be seen by our most powerful telescopes, or delinated by radio waves, how can scientists be so sure they are what they say they are.

Yes, but if they can't be seen by our most powerful telescopes, or delinated by radio waves, how can scientists be so sure they are what they say they are. | If atomic nuclei cannot be seen by a microscope or radar, how can scientists be so sure they (atomic nuclei) are what they say they are, and proceed to build an atomic bomb which works? The scientists that developed the first Atomic and then Hydrogen Bombs were not working from nuclear particle theory which was capable of direct visual observation. Yet they predicted absolutely correctly what atomic U235 fission and hydrogen fusion would create, and proved it by building bombs that exploded for all the world to see!
In your view, canbe123 how can have happened? Or do you deny that it did, in fact, happen? |

| In science, theories explain facts, which makes them factual in themselves. The Theory of Evolution is a prime example.
What "facts" do you base your speculations on? Do you have access to the telescopes?
Thought not...
