Here is a collection of the misspelled (and often incoherent) signs that the Teabaggers have displayed. I hope others will post their own personal favorites:

That's a good point. People who can actually write are kinda suspicious, after all.

I was one of those that was brought up to value spelling over content, so when my children were in school, I felt that spelling was not as important to their teachers as it should have been. They thought it more important for children to write something than to learn how to spell the words.

I think we all know very educated, bright people who can't spell their own names, so I guess it's a little juvenile of me to chuckle at some of these, and I wouldn't be chuckling so loud if I agreed with the people holding the signs above. But how could a person who thinks that socialistic policies are so evil be so ignorant of how to spell the word socialistic?

I'm one of those picky people, too. I think it's very important to express oneself in fairly standard language, unambiguously and clearly. That requires proper grammar and spelling. I don't always live up to my own standards, but I do try. Usually.

I do think what we see with the serial misspellings among the teabaggers is that they largely represent the dumber and more ignorant of our countrymen. There's no other way to express this: They're mostly idiots inherently incapable of sensing or correcting their own tarditude.

Rite like a iggnerant bufoon and you readers woll thik of you in that sam lite. And ritly so.

It's a little sad when you think about it, for it speaks volumes about our educational system, especally primary & high schools. That is where children are supposed to learn about these things.

But there funy anyway.

You know, the screwed-up spelling wouldn't be so bad on its own. But these people either noticed it themselves, or somebody had to have told them, and they decided that it would be better to have the sign than not. While dozens (if not hundreds) of their neighbors in the crowd probably have correctly spelled signs expressing the same sentiments. That says something.

Of course, since a lot of these people feel that sex is dirty and a sin, perhaps "no pubic option" is an intended double entendre.

On a loosely related matter:
Tea Party Convention forgets US flag, blames hotel staff

By Ron Brynaert
Friday, February 5th, 2010 -- 10:54 am

Perhaps the inaugural National Tea Party Convention was striving for historical accuracy.

On Thursday, Tennessee's Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center welcomed "hundreds of conservative activists" on Thursday (See also Invoking ‘literacy test,’ Tea Party opening speaker suggests blacks be kept from voting), who are often referred to as "flag-wavers."

As the Washington Post reports, "The convention's first day lacked the orchestrated staging of most modern political events. The convention host delivered a meandering welcome speech without notes, saying he misplaced them. Former congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) offered a fiery defense of Judeo-Christian faith and traditional American values, but there was no prayer or Pledge of Allegiance to open the convention -- nor was there an American flag in the convention hall."

The paper reports that Memphis Tea Party leader and convention spokesman Mark Skoda "blamed the oversight on the hotel staff."

However, since the original Boston Tea Party demonstration occurred three years before Betsy Ross debuted her American flag on July 4th, 1776, the modern day patriots were able to keep it real in an old school vibe.

"Patriots," eh? I have another, less glamorous name for these conservative clowns, and it ain't "conservative clowns."

Yes, I saw that. Hello again, Jim Crow!

Of course, I'm a lot more concerned about whatever fascistic messages do get through the smokescreen of burning, paranoiac stupidity than I am by the misspellings and grammatical errors of their expression. The implicit and explicit no-nothing anti-intellectualism, the racism, the "God Gold & Guns" poster (despite its misspelling of "ingredients") -- all these are chilling.

Still, it's nice to at least be able to delight in the opposition's slobbering stupidity in its ability to convey what they think are ideas.

I believe I could support a "No pubic option". Especially when it comes to soup.

I suppose I should have said "Peg your irony and hypocrisy meters". If we gave this group any type of literacy test, how many people do you think would successfully complete it?

Probably more of them than you'd think, so long as "completing" included eating the pencil and and making a paper airplane out of the test paper.
