Hi, I'm a bit annoyed about so many quickly-locked topics on this forum. Like I really wanted to reply to the announcement of the 4th annual Skeptic Summary. But noooooooooooooooooooo, as Steve Martin would say.

In general, we will lock a thread either after about 15 pages, or when the whole discussion becomes ridiculous. I think, though, that Dave locks Summary announcements immediately. That's an exception, though.

Well, the Special Announcements folder is for special announcements, and to stop them from being special announcements, we have to lock them.

The comment thread for the Summary is still open.

Also, when really hot topics exceed 15 pages and are locked, generally Mods will start a "part 2" thread. The only reason real long threads are locked at all is because they become very slow to load for technical reasons.

(As the most junior and untrustworthy of Mods, I handle only Moonscape News, which has never, ever had a very long thread. Sigh.)
