There is a movement afoot to put Reagan's drooling moosh on the 50 dollar bill.
Reporting from Washington - Ronald Reagan is honored by, among other things, an airport, a freeway, an aircraft carrier and -- ironically for a critic of big government -- one of the biggest federal buildings in Washington.

Now, some of the late president's admirers are launching a new effort to add another honor: printing his likeness on a $50 bill in place of Ulysses S. Grant's.

In polls of presidential scholars, Reagan consistently outranks Grant, said Rep. Patrick T. McHenry (R-N.C.), who introduced legislation to make the change.

Anyone stupid enough to try and have catsup classified as a vegetable in school lunches deserves only to be forgotten as soon as possible.

I don't remember his name, but there is conserva-droid who wants something to commemorate Reagan in all 50 states. Things like the Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington, monuments, parks, highways, etc. This guy even wanted Reagan's face carved into Mt Rushmore (I kid you not). Also to replace FDR's face on the dime. Apparently this guy doesn't remember that the FDR-dime connection is directly due to FDR's March of Dimes to cure the disease that crippled FDR (polio? muscular dystrophy?)

"What? Oh, oh, 'just rebuild it'? Oh, real [bleep]ing original. And who's gonna give me a loan, jackhole? You? You got an ATM on that torso LiteBrite?"

The non-scientific poll at CNN.com is running No 78%, Yes 22%.

Reagan ran up the Federal debt enormously while lowering taxes for the rich. His Iran-Contra scheme was flat out high treason. His presidency essentially began the NeoConservative movement.

If the Great Prevaricator's mug is put on the $50 bill, I will not consider it legal tender.

It was polio. I remember the Rushmore movement quite well, and we are all but buried in stuff named and and re-named after him.

Also, agreeing with 'mooner; if McHenry's bullshit should come to pass, I shall never again either spend or accept a $50. But not to worry; this is just another Republican congress-skank trying to fluff his base.

Some addle brained twit wants to rename a mountain for Ronnie:

How to take the "devil" out of "Mount Diablo"? Rename it after President Ronald Reagan, of course, declares Arthur Mijares. A pious Christian, Mijares, of Oakley, believes "Diablo," the Spanish word for devil, is "derogatory and profane" and proposed the name change to the United States Board on Geographic Names.

This is his second try to rename Contra Costa County's 3,849-foot-high mountain after Reagan, who died on June 5, 2004. During Mijares' first campaign in 2005, he told the Chronicle:

"When I look at that mountain, I see beauty, an entity that was not created by the devil. The devil does nothing but rob, cheat, steal and kill. That is his nature. I've known about this for years, but I've now decided it is time to act."

The foundation of morality is to . . . give up pretending to believe that for which there is no evidence, and repeating unintelligible propositions about things beyond the possibliities of knowledge.

That would not take the evil out of Mount Diablo, no. Rather it would add still more evil, and not a little stupidity in the bargain.

Things are a little slow this morning, so here's another article on the President who is directly responsible for for kicking off the mess we're currently in, and was at least as ethectly challenged as the last Republican liar to hold the office:
Good gravy...they've got an airport, a highway, the largest federal building in Washington DC and a freeway and that's still not enough honor for those Gipper-worshiping acolytes:

(S)ome of the late president's admirers are launching a new effort to add another honor: printing his likeness on a $50 bill in place of Ulysses S. Grant's.

In polls of presidential scholars, Reagan consistently outranks Grant, said Rep. Patrick T. McHenry (R-N.C.), who introduced legislation to make the change.

But at least one Democrat who serves on the House Financial Services Committee, where the proposal has been sent, isn't ready to jettison Grant for "someone whose policies are still controversial."

"Our currency ought to be something that unites us," said Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks).

They never stop finding ways to keep throwing Reagan up as some weird conservative messiah (never mind that they sneer at Obama for being messianic). In fact, there is a peak near me called Mt. Diablo. A man--who professed to object to the obvious satanic overtones of the name--has been trying to get the county to rename it Mt. Reagan. Thankfully, the county has so far been unpersuaded.

The guy that I was thinking of in my first post above is Grover Norquist.

Maybe Norquist should be advocating monuments to Jack Abramoff, instead. He seems to have laundered that felon's dirty money.
