Why isn't this corrupt piece of second-hand ass-wipe in jail? DeLay: People are unemployed because they want to be
By David Edwards and Gavin Dahl Sunday, March 7th, 2010 -- 12:50 pm
Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay says that Sen. Jim Bunning was "brave" for blocking an extension in unemployment benefits.
DeLay subscribes to the notion that people only try to find jobs when their benefits run out.
"There is an argument to be made that these extensions, the unemployment benefits, keep people from going and finding jobs," he told CNN's Candy Crowley Sunday.
"In fact there are some studies that have been done that show people stay on unemployment compensation and they don't look for a job until two or three weeks before they know the benefits are going to run out," he argued.
"People are unemployed because they want to be? " asked Crowley.

And why is any news organization, except FOX, giving the foul, little douche any air time at all?
Must be that CNN envies FOX's success in promoting sleaze.

No credible news ortganization is giving him airtime, just the tabloids..... Ohh, wait, that's about all we have left that calls itself "news" anymore. Nevermind.
And the reason is that idiot america tunes in to watch retard fights. The more retarded the combatants the better it is for ratings.

Speaking of Republican lying scumbags, there is this from the Huffington Post:
Roy Ashburn: 'I'm Gay'
State Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Calif.), the fierce opponent of gay rights who was arrested last week for drunk driving after leaving a gay nightclub, confirmed in a radio interview Monday that he is gay.
"I'm gay," Ashburn told local radio host Inga Barks before returning to the Senate for the first time since his arrest. "Those are the words that have been so difficult for me for so long."
Ashburn, a 55-year-old divorced father of four, claimed his 15-year crusade against proposed gay-rights laws in the California statehouse stemmed from his desire to vote the way his constituents wanted. |
Didn't want to start a whole new thread for this. It's become so commonplace that it makes me wonder what the G in GOP really stands for... |

I highly recommend the documentary movie, Outrage for a look at such anti-gay, gay hypocrites and their "outing" by activists. We haven't heard the last of these dangerous (mostly, but not entirely, GOP) phonies. |

Yeh, I saw that and thought, "Aw shit, another one. " It's become so commonplace that it's barely worth a mention, and if it wasn't for this wanker being rabidly anti-gay, it wouldn't be worth even that.

Anyone have a list of all the politicos/preachers (those active in politics in one way or another) who have turned out to have been gay? |

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

| I personally don't know of an exhaustive list, nor even if an accurate one exists. The names of the few such people mentioned in "Outrage" are here, however. That might be a good staring point. (Until I'd seen the movie, I'd not even heard the rumor about Ed Koch.) |

From my understanding of U.S. civics, legislators aren't elected to be a rubber-stamp of the mob mentality back home, but should provide leadership and discretion. We wouldn't need Representatives and Senators to give speeches from the floor trying to convince their peers of the rightness of their position or even be present in Congress if all that they were supposed to do is vote according to the latest polling from back home. With near-instant communications and probably millions of willing volunteers to take polls to those who won't leave their homes, we could eliminate Congress entirely in favor of cheaper and faster voting booths installed in convenience stores and gas stations. We could train monkeys to do what these Congresspeople get paid tons of money to do, if the whole of their jobs were to vote the way the people wanted them to vote.
And so, when I hear (for example) that a Congressperson is against health-care reform because "the American people don't want it," I consider that to be an abdication of the Congresscritter's responsibilities. I mean, if polling data said that a majority of a Senator's constituents wanted to legalize the barbecuing of babies, I would hope that the hypothetical Senator would vote against his/her constituents' wishes.
In still other words, I think "my constituents want me to vote this way, so I will" is an attitude that says nothing more than "I want to get re-elected next time," and so indicates (to paraphrase a blatantly liberal movie) that the proponent of such an idea is more focused on keeping his job than doing his job. |
