Well, actually, most politicians do it, but few so blatently as this: nearly $2,000 bucks for a titty bar visit!
UPDATE II: A California political consultant has said he was behind the $1,946 charged to the Republican National Committee for an evening at a "bondage-themed" topless bar in L.A.

A report at the Daily Caller, published Monday, had suggested it may have been RNC Chairman Michael Steele who had spent that money. The RNC released a statement after the report, denying that Steele had been there that night.

According to CNN, Erik Brown, president of Dynamic Marketing Inc., was the person who was reimbursed nearly $2,000 that was spent at the topless bar. Brown has reportedly said that he will return the money to the Republican Party.

"It's not clear why the RNC re-imbursed Brown for the charges or who else was with him at the club," CNN reported.

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee is denying that it was party chairman Michael Steele who spent nearly $2,000 at a "bondage-themed" topless bar in L.A. -- but the party doesn't deny it reimbursed costs for someone's visit to the racy establishment.

It appears to be a really snazzy titty bar, but nevertheless I don't think that expense should have gone on the account. I'm sure they don't think so either; at least not any more.

Here's Wonkette's take on it:

Wonkette pal (and your editor’s former editor at LA CityBeat) Rebecca Schoenkopf sends this note regarding Erik Brown, the Orange County GOP donor now taking the fall for the RNC’s $2,000 sexytime at West Hollywood’s Club Voyeur bondage-lesbian den of debauchery: “I know Erik Brown really well; we used to do a radio show together,” Schoenkopf writes. “There is simply NO FUCKING WAY it was he.” Full craziness follows:
I know Erik Brown really well; we used to do a radio show together. He is the most uptight, constipated conservative Christian ever, and while that may sound like a perfect candidate for the topless lesbian thing, there is simply NO FUCKING WAY it was he. That kind of shit would make him cry for his mommy. He is clearly, CLEARLY the fall guy on this.

We responded to Rebecca with this picture from that radio show, “The Melting Point” on KRLA 870 AM, where Erik Brown is clearly entranced by Rebecca’s rack.
With any luck, this could get even more high-larous than it already is.

I have no idea if Michael Steele even likes bondage-themed topless bars. (If he doesn't, he'll probably be suspected of faggotry by his Party.) But it's been mentioned several times that Steele likes to live high on the hog with a huge expense account charged to the GOP.

I can't help but wonder what the Religious Right thinks of all this. After all, they consider the Republican Party to be the party of high moral values and they don't approve of such things as stealing, lying, married sodomites, atheism, Sweden, non-white Presidents, "HAPPY HOLIDAYS!" Democrats, getting high, preacher-bashing, gambling other than Bingo, health care reform, Harry Potter, the Theory of Evolution and titty bars.

I suspect that there will be a profound lack of an outraged Christian backlash over this.

PZ sez:
I think it would be great if the Republicans blew their warchest on strip clubs. I just hope they tipped the women well.

I too hope they tipped lavishly but I am not optimistic. Deadbeats seldom do.

I was wrong, I was wrong. My only excuse is that, as it didn't involve the sex fiend, Bill Clinton, the Religious Right would ignore it. Well, turns out they haven't.
Conservative Women’s Group Rips RNC Over Bondage-Themed Nightclub

The news that nearly $2000 in RNC funds were spent on a bondage-themed nightclub seems on the verge of creating yet another major headache for RNC chair Michael Steele.

The latest: A conservative women’s advocacy organization — one whose members donate to the RNC — is demanding answers. Penny Nance, the CEO of Concerned Women for America, which boasts half a million members nationwide, emails:

“Did they really agree to reimburse nearly $2,000 for a bondage-themed night club? We have several questions. For the RNC: Why would a staffer believe that this is acceptable, and has this kind of thing been approved in the past? And for the Democratic National Committee: Do you believe that it is appropriate to use tax dollars for pornographic exhibits like the ones recently funded by the stimulus bill?

“Please explain to Republican and Democratic women if and why you think it is appropriate to promote pornographic enterprises? As women we find the very idea of officials from either party approving of endeavors that objectify and demean women outrageous. This kind of behavior is not appropriate for national leaders that our children should be able to look up to as role models, and that our daughters could be working for.

“Did you really swill drinks, ogle young girls and plan party business at this kind of establishment? Please explain!”
Bolding in the original.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? Don't you just wish they'd plan some more?

The party of Fiscal Responsibility! Yeah, right!

I mean, really, is there no end to their perfidy? It doesn't look like it....
Trendy Fashion Buys Reimbursed as "Office Supplies" to RNC Finance Officials
For one Republican National Committee official, a spin through a trendy clothing boutique racked up hundreds in "office supplies," all billed to party donors. And there's more.

April 2, 2010

Advertisement At the Republican National Committee, the term "office supplies" seems to have taken on a whole new meaning. If you take its recent filings with the Federal Election Commission at face value, the RNC, it seems, requires thousands of dollars worth of pricey clothing and more than a splash of booze to run its office.

Listed on the report in the category of "office supplies" are purchases from a New England winery and a Capitol Hill liquor store, as well as more than $3,800 from a Florida clothing store. The category of "meals" also seems to extend to the sartorial, with a $450 purchase from a high-end Manhattan boutique -- one that has no restaurant or take-out shop on the premises -- falling into that category, as listed on the RNC's reports to the FEC. That purchase, as well as one for more than $500 from the Florida clothing store, are attributed to RNC Deputy Finance Director Debbie LeHardy, who, according to the report, was reimbursed for them.

LeHardy also received reimbursement for more than $2,800 in "tips" between December 2009 and February 2010, according to the reports.

Even before news broke this week that the Republican National Committee spent nearly $2,000 at a bondage-themed Hollywood strip bar, RNC Chairman Michael Steele had been sharply criticized for extravagant spending. AlterNet's review of RNC campaign finance records suggests a pattern of reporting irregularities within an institutional culture of over-the-top extravagance.

In February, as the RNC's finance chiefs gathered in Boca Grande, Florida, for their Finance Leadership Meeting -- the meeting at which the RNC's "fear" strategy for donors was revealed in a telling PowerPoint presentation -- the RNC made purchases totaling $3817 at Fugate's. On its report, the RNC labels the purchase as "office supplies," but Fugate's general manager Nancy Blank says her store doesn't sell office supplies. Fugate's sells men's and women's clothing and accessories, Blank told AlterNet. "We're a specialty department store," she said.

Now I await some Democrats being caught at the same, stupid thing. After all, ripping off the donors seems to be a popular sport.

Actually, the "family research council" (sarcasm quotes) and it's dirtbag spokeman Tony Perkins, have called for their crazies to not give any more money to the RNC. Rather, they tell them to give money to the FrC PAC! Because, you know, they will send it to the "right" politician.
