Suprise

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. - George Washington

I'm unsurprised. He's not trusted by either side, and for good reasons. There's no way he would get the support he needs for either campaigning or for legislative programs. Essentially, Stupak outsmarted himself.

Hell, I'm not surprised. I'm reading James Madison by John Meechum what they went through to get the Constitution (what most people now consider a pretty good idea) written and ratified may well have been more difficult than health care of the past year. And essentially the same underlying causes; doomsday scenarios, breathless hyperbole, misinformation, and outright lies. in today's climate Madison would be considered an elitist.

edited: Make the Ralph Ketcham not John Meechum.

In today's climate, anyone who thinks they know a better way to do things than Joe Schmoe is considered an elitist.

No kidding...

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.
