The big problem of course for the Roman Catholic Church is that the radical measures they desperately need to take (remove their Pope, fire all Cardinals who voted him in, fire and excommunicate all "Princes of the Church" who either ignored pedophilia, or enabled or sheltered the offenders, immediately and forever in the future publicly turn over all evidence of priestly sexual pedophilia and adult rape to secular authorities, and excommunicate all offenders) is exactly what they refuse to do.
Careers and billions of dollars would be lost if they did the right thing, but the Church would be stronger afterward.
Of course, if they don't decapitate the Church, they lose everything. Short-term greed, lust, and power-lust trump the survival of the Church. Is the Pope is hoping the Virgin Mary will manifest herself and smite everyone who if offended by the outrages committed by the priesthood? The hierarchy may fool itself, but it fools fewer and fewer of the laity and general public. The Church in both my dearest hope and opinion, is doomed to catastrophic decline. |
