Bryan Fischer, a blogger for the warm-hearted Christianists of the American "Family" Association, wants fatherless poor kids to act like adults, already. Get jobs, punks. Childhood's no excuse for leeching off the government. No more gravy train for those little poor bastards:
. . .

In time, the young females among them are highly likely to bear their own illegitimate children - it's no longer fashionable to call them "bastards," but that's what they are - and the males among them are highly likely to impregnate available women and then walk when it comes time to assume the responsibilities not just of a sperm donor but a father.

. . .

You may look for help to charities funded by private, voluntary, compassion-driven donations, but you may not look to government to force other Americans at gunpoint to take money out of their wallets and fork it over to you. We are no longer going to treat you as helpless little children; we are going to treat you as the responsible adults you can become. It's time to grow up.

[My emphasis.]
"Suffer the little children..." In that context, the word "suffer" doesn't mean what you think it means, AFA.

This is only the second time I've heard a conservative, or anyone, say that. Is the idea of treating children like adults because their parents aren't married a common one? And how is it the child's fault?

How about we call them human beings?

What he means when he writes "treat you as helpless little children; we are going to treat you as the responsible adults you can become" he is actually talking about the single mothers (I think).

Also, I somehow doubt that Bryan is stupid enough to think that "bastard" only means "child-out-of-wedlock" today. Surely, he is intentinally being a ... bastard?

Yeah, that makes much more sense.
