Dave, I couldn't find your original whammy bar thread (why does a "bent" note always sound "in tune") but I stumbled across this while looking up something else this AM:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amodal_perception

"...Albert Bregman noted an auditory analogue of this phenomenon: when a melody is interrupted by bursts of white noise, it is nonetheless heard as a single melody continuing "behind" the bursts of noise."

May not be relevant but is interesting nonetheless.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought my Dark Lord of the Sith could protect a small thermal exhaust port that's only 2-meters wide! That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet! You have any idea what this is going to do to my credit?!?!"

"What? Oh, oh, 'just rebuild it'? Oh, real [bleep]ing original. And who's gonna give me a loan, jackhole? You? You got an ATM on that torso LiteBrite?"

There's no need to over analyze this. Can't we just accept that whammy bars kick ass?

Of course we over-analyze; this is a skeptics' site after all

Ahh yes, the title threw me off. I did a search for tremolo and didn't get any hits. I spent all of 30 seconds looking for it.

It's amazing the stuff you stumble across when you're wiki'ing

For some great real world examples of the best guys who use these theories to kick ass check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimebag_Darrell
and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_King

Could these guys be considered scientists?
