| Yeah. It was in our Summary some time back as an Evil Pick. It's a great show and well worth seeing if you haven't seen it, and worth seeing again if you have... |

Carl said, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". While not necessarily being an extraordinary claim, this comes with no evidence. Just something I found on the web and I feel a/this post on "Cosmos" deserves more than one reply. SS

Sagan is pretty new to me, this series was made before I was even born, but I am much more impressed with this than any newer pop sci I have watched/read (though I really love Hawking's A Brief History of Time). |

Carl truly had a remarkable ability to express his love and understanding of his space science. He had a way of communicating that could spread his awe of the universe among people like a German Measles epidemic hitting a community of anti-vaxers. Nobody else quite equals Sagan at doing this through speaking, though among contemporary science popularizers, perhaps Neil deGrasse Tyson comes closest. |

I just don't see it. In what I've seen, Tyson always seems to be saying, "look how this works, cool!" He does offer some degree of our smallness in the universe, but in a different way. Maybe he does more somewhere I haven't seen. |

I agree that Neil deGrasse Tyson comes the closest. And really, he's a great teacher. He does have that "look how this works, cool!" thing going on, (and I personally saw that in action at TAM6 when he used my arm as part of an impromptu teaching moment about Apophysis.) but so did Sagan. His style is different but the message is the same. In fact, I think because of de Grasse's almost child like enthusiasm for whatever it is he's discussing, he may become even more effective at popularizing science than Sagan was with his more poetic style.
There are probably hundreds of de Grasse clips on youtube. I'll find some of those later that demonstrate his ability to teach and spread his enthusiasm for science like some sort of contact high.
He also writes great books.
On a side note, deGrasse's keynote address at TAM6 was far and away the best talk about skepticism that I have ever seen in person, (having missed Sagan's "The Burden of Skepticism" as the keynote talk, many years ago at a CFI event, which I still consider to be the best.)

| Me too; wish it'd crossed my mind!
