At 10PM tonight is the premier of Bad Universe on the Discovery Channel. Phil Plait's new series.
Should have mentioned this already. Sorry I'm late on this. It's still almost three hours before it comes on here...

I'm on rabbit ears here so I hope it will stream on the web sometime soon. |

Damned good show! I liked Phil's style and the the way he blows stuff up in the name of science. I also liked the science. There was a lot that I'd never realized about asteroids and their potential effects.

Yeah. Fun show! Of course, explosions are part of the Discovery Cannel's formula, (see Mythbusters) but if it works and it brings in viewers, that's fine. The science is the thing... |

Whattaya mean? Ghost Hunting is science! They use EMF detectors and infrared cameras and everything! Looks like science to me! |

PZ asks a question that scuttled through my mind as I watched it: just what the hell does Phil have against Sidney, anyway? It seems to be a perfectly presentable city. Better the asteroid should devastate the Earth with Washington D.C as ground zero. Congratulations to Phil Plait!

I just saw the premier of his new show, Bad Universe, and it was lots of fun…and he's a very entertaining host. I do have a few questions, though.
Why does he hate Sydney so much?
He was blowing things up right and left, and he was just talking about little rocks. What's he going to do when he has shows about black holes or supernovae?
|
What indeed? Can we look forward to bigger and better, sciencey explosions? Oh, I do hope so!

I liked the 1st episode.
Yes, there was a lot of blowing things up, but I found it different than Mythbusters, etc. due to the science dense nature of information presented (I mean, that comet making segment? 15 seconds and you know a hell of a lot about a comet!) in easily understandable ways!
I look forward to future episodes to see if this technique continues.
I also wonder how people who are less versed in science receive all this info presented. |
If you think it's work, you're doing it wrong. |
