This brings to mind the movie, "Rain Man".

I knew Verel many years ago as neighborhood 'upper level' in a local handicap home where I volunteered. Verel, a 19 years old string-bean pimply face male, could at any moment, ask one's birth date and hour, and in the next breath could tell you the exact number of days and hours old you were. He was always spot-on the many times we checked him (with a calculator). Beyond that, as far as I knew, could never attended public school and had been institutionalized due to his autistic ways. I would say he was otherwise on about a seven year old level of social/knowledge skill.

There's been other autistic savants in the news from time to time....one blind savant, whose 'talent' was with the piano, after hearing a incredibly complex classical piano piece for the first time, played it note for note. Another one could recite his 'locale weather diary' day by day for the past forty years or so.

Here's another one. I first read about him doing this a couple years ago...some incredible link between his visual field/memory and....well, whatever. Maybe after some digging, more could be found out about this guy....

People like this will probably offer more insight into how the human mind works than any 'sane' person. Hard to figure out what normal is until you research the abnormal.

Checkout 'Brainman', saw it on Science Channel. Some savant with some actual social skills who can describe his thought process. I laughed at the chess thing though I could outdo either guy with my eyes closed, he did learn to speak and read Icelandic in a week though.
