First, Stephanie Gilmore wins her fourth world title.
Then, the tragic loss of legendary surfer Andy Irons
Then, The first ever womens big wave contest is held. It was won by my personal favorite Keala Kennelly
Now, Kelly Slater wins his 10th world title!
2010 is going to gown down as a pivotal year in professional surfing.
Thank you for reading my interruption. Now back to the normal skeptical programming.

I don't closely follow the wonderful sport of surfing, but so appreciate your update, Ebone.
I do follow Dengue, however. What a horrible way for Irons to die. Dengue is endemic in Puerto Rico where the surfing contest was held, here in the Philippines, presently in Florida, and elsewhere. It's a hemorrhagic fever, causing massive bleeding in body tissues. Dengue's also called "Breakbone Fever" because of all the pain it causes in joints.
There's no cure or even direct treatment for Dengue, but sufferers must be kept under close hospital observation, given fluids, and not allowed to take aspirin or non-aspirin anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), as those drugs cause even worse internal bleeding. Patients must have their fevers and pain controlled by other means.
Why Irons wasn't forced into a hospital in PR, I cannot imagine. |

Whoa! Bummer about Irons!!!
And Slater is still winning world titles? That's just amazing!!!
And yeah. The woman are awesome... When I started surfing, there were no woman that could come close to what they are doing now. They surfed like "girls." Everything has changed... |
Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.
Why not question something for a change?
