There are a bunch of atheists in the audience, too. They've clapped at a couple of famous atheist quotes so far. |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Dempski come out as a young Earth Creationist a little while back? Now I hear him saying that he is not a Christian, but is secular. He lies quite well.

Oh darn. I missed the whole thing. I was awake too. And it was early enough to not cut into my day...
And yes filthy. Dempski came out has a YEC and based on what Dave said he said, once he has stated that it's either evolution or God, ID doesn't mean a whole lot...
Edited to add: Check that. I can't find where Dempski has come out as a YEC. Maybe someone else can find it, if it happened. |

I knew I'd posted something on that a while back.
The debate, I thought, favored Hitchens although Dembski, reading from a script, was better spoken. Dembski put forth almost all of the tired, old talking points that Creationists have been using for as long as I care to remember. Every one has been explained and debunked to the point of ridicule in these very fora. But this was a smart move on his part, as his target audience was school kids in a religious institution. In that context, Dembski won.
We can just hope that some few of them got to thinking about it.

There were some atheists in there. "Science Avenger" commented:As to the question of who was applauding Hitchens, there were about 70 members of a local atheist group (my wife among them) in attendance.
They also had some teenagers with them, and to say they were unimpressed with Dembski would be kind. |

Thanks, Dave! I picked up on a lot that I missed watching it.

Wrote Dembski:God is the source of all being and purpose. Given God’s existence, what sense does it make to deny God’s goodness? None. Indeed, denying God’s goodness is logically and rationally incoherent – it’s absurd. To see this, consider what it would mean to assert that God is not good. Presumably this would mean that God violated some moral standard. Whose moral standard? |
How about this Dembski: Given God's existence, what makes you think that God has any moral standards at all? If God hasn't got any moral standards, then one can indeed deny God's goodness, since there is no objective moral standard by which to judge Him - God has no moral standards to violate. How absurd is my response, Dembski?
