In 1978 a 20 year old light aircraft disappeared over bass straight Australia. What makes it interesting is the last communication from the pilot describes a long metallic object with green lights making fast and erratic movements above him, the object is described to hover, speed out of sight, and to orbit him at various points over 6 minutes. Thoughout the communication with air traffic control there are unexplained pulsing noises, towards the end of the communication, the planes engines begin to fail for unknown reasons, (the engines coughing can also be heard on the radio), at which point the pilot describes the unknown object as hovering above him, he states, "It is hovering and it's not an aircraft.", following this there is an open microphone for 17 seconds and what is described as "metal scraping noises"

This is probably my favorite UFO story, there are many stories of missing planes, and many UFO sightings, but this has both. The witness is dead or missing so fame or attention doesn't seem to be a motivation. And finally we have the transcript, and descriptions of the sounds from various sources who have listened to the recording.

Detailed analysis on this site: This link makes a lot out of other witnesses, these first gave their accounts supposedly before hearing of the disappearance.

Interesting.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

I have to say that, having never heard of this, it's pretty cool.

"What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon?"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought my Dark Lord of the Sith could protect a small thermal exhaust port that's only 2-meters wide! That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet! You have any idea what this is going to do to my credit?!?!"

"What? Oh, oh, 'just rebuild it'? Oh, real [bleep]ing original. And who's gonna give me a loan, jackhole? You? You got an ATM on that torso LiteBrite?"
