It's not obvious, but when you think about it, the mindset that is exposted in the link that this commentator left on PZ's blog shows it quite well.

You can click on the link the commentator gives.

Here's an Australian Christian (Steve Wakeford) happily agreeing that he loves Jesus more than his wife and children:
I love my wife, but love Jesus more. She loves me, but loves Jesus more. We love our kids, but love Jesus more.

To me, it seems Wakefield loves his Jesus dogma more than he loves any human being. Anybody who puts an ideology of any kind absolutely above other people, not to mention the very closest people in his life, has made a deliberate and fatal step away from his own humanity. Such a person has at best become far less empathic, and at worst, dangerously callous or cynical towards his fellow human beings, even those who are supposed to be his loved ones.

Ideas may or may not merit respect, but only other beings can deserve our love.
