Here in Corvallis, every Friday, I have yet to find a pub or restaurant where the soup of the day is not clam chowder.

It's carbon hydrates, true, but is it energy that the body can use? The liver breaks down alcohol in a two-step process, but nowhere in this process is glycose produced. On the contrary, the way I reason, the body should be expending energy producing the enzymes needed to metabolise alcohol.
What other metabolic pathway could the cell using to actually extract energy from the alcohol, if the calory statement is true?
I think "alcohol is calories" is a myth. But the drink mix may contain copious amounts of sugar. Like Amaretto (my favourite liqueur) and Baileys. But not in a straight Scotch or Vodka.
