Some people say God made man outta mud
A skeptic is made outta neurons and blood
Neurons and blood and skin and doubt
A back that's a-weak and a brain that's stout

You bust sixteen woos, what do you win
Another day older still livin' in sin
TAM 'leven don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the SFN store

Went to church one mornin' had wafers and wine
Told the vicar he's a lyin' swine
I busted sixteen verses of Genesis bunk
And the vicar said "Get outta here, skunk!"

You bust sixteen woos, what do you win
Another day older still livin' in sin
TAM 'leven don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the SFN store

There came one mornin' a cyclonic storm
I told a denier the globe was too warm
Showed him a graph of the Cee-Oh-Two
With published citations, really busted his woo

You bust sixteen woos, what do you win
Another day older still livin' in sin
TAM 'leven don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the SFN store

If you hear me a-quotin', better step aside
A lotta men didn't, but others complied
One quote from Filthy, the other from Dude
If the first one don't a-get you
Then the other one should

You bust sixteen woos, what do you win
Another day older still livin' in sin
TAM 'leven don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the SFN store

I'm diggin' it Halfmooner.

You have stumbled upon a little secret of mine. Before a gig I spend about 15 minutes singing along to Tennessee Ernie to warm up my voice. Sixteen Tons is first on the playlist. I am going to have to memorize your lyrics.

Now if you could parody Tennessee Border, Mister & Mississippi, Cry of the Wild Goose, and Nine Pound Hammer I'll be all set.

Haole with heart, thats all I'll ever be. I'm not a part of the North Shore society. Stuck on the shoulder, that's where you'll find me. Digging for scraps with the kooks in line. -Offspring

Thanks, Ebone!

I never see these things commented
No one even says, "I vomited"
Until now since my verse inaugural
People always shunned my doggerel

Heym HalfMooner! If I turned that into a song, would you charge me royalties? =)

Tom Waits would be proud to be sing'n that song HalfMooner.

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

Not so sure about Merl Travis who wrote Sixteen Tons. Cool song though!!!

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

There's some dispute about the authorship of the song. A folksinger named George S. Davis claimed to have written an original version, "Nine-to-ten tons."
