Even the most creative science fiction movie could not have concocted the reality of what is taking place both in the Gulf of Mexico and around the world right now. Genetically-modified (GM), oil-eating bacteria introduced into the Gulf as part of the oil disaster's remediation efforts is reportedly causing the emergence of various other mutant bacteria, as well as increasingly-severe harm to humans and the environment.

Hi¡ A friend of mine sent me this link. I am quite suspicious about the veracity of it since, after reading the article, I examined the website "naturalnews.com" and it stroke me as being... I don't know... too many articles questioning vaccines and the sort.

Any thoughts about the article? Has anybody heard about this from another source?

The people at NaturalNews are a bunch of paranoid, anti-science nutcases. I wouldn't trust anything they write as far as I could throw their servers.

Their primary source seems to be this article, which comes to the conclusion that there are engineered bacteria eating the gulf oil only because the author(s) mistakenly think that there's a catalog somewhere of every natural bacteria on the whole planet. Since (they think) that catalog exists and is complete, and since scientists have expressed "surprise" about the oil-eating bacteria's capabilities, the author(s) think that the bacteria must be man-made. Add in a few mined quotes and a supreme ignorance of biology, et viola! You get a source that NaturalNews whack-a-loons will love.

Regarding "increasingly-severe harm to humans and the environment."

"The is like a major bacterial storm," explained a nurse working in the Gulf ... "It could be the reason we are seeing a variance of symptoms in different individuals. In some people, we see respiratory complications, while in others we see skin or GI (gastrointestinal) symptoms. I think it is due to a multitude of colonized bacteria."

Well, if a nurse thinks so, then why not draw the conclusion that it is a fact...?

Thanks, Dave! I took a look at the link you've provided and, indeed, it's all guesses and assumptions (and the added bonus of all those xian comments about the end of the world! WTF!?).
