...among other things. Hoo boy. Get a load of this topic on PZ Myers's blog.

Minnesota Republicans have introduced legislation that would repeal the 1984 Local Government Pay Equity Act (LGPEA), which directs local governments to ensure that women are paid the same as men. While local governments say reporting requirements are costly, equal rights groups say the law needs to stay intact in order to ensure fair pay, especially for women of color.

HF7/SF159 would repeal a laundry list of mandates on local governments — including regulations on part-time police officers, agricultural programs for low-income farmers and grants for libraries — but buried in the bill is a full repeal of the LGPEA.

Some of the comments have info that reveals that it's not just in Minnesota:

Hey PZ, we are in the same boat here in WI. WI passed on of the most progressive family leave acts in the nation and the rethugs who control both houses and the gov want to repeal it. I'd say let the idiots who vote for these republicans reap what they sow, but I gotta live here too along with a lot of other nice people.

and again, and again...

State GOPs are competing for which one can hate women the most. Minnesota needs to work harder, though; there's some asshole in Georgia who wants to rewrite criminal codes to label victims of rape, stalking and domestic violence as "accusers" while those on the receiving end of all other crimes are still called "victims."

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

More bad news.

Now it's gotten crazier. As it seems to be GOP policy to constantly try to out-douche one another, Pennsylvania's Republican Senator Joe Pitts has introduced H.R. 358. This bill would allow hospitals staffed by the kinds of people with a bug up their ass about abortion and a thin grasp of the Hippocratic Oath not only to decline to provide a life-saving abortion to a woman who direly needs one, but even to refuse to facilitate transporting her to a hospital that will. Save her life, that is. So we are presented with the spectacle of a woman dying in agony in a hospital parking lot while the nurses and orderlies on duty calmly watch Oprah and tweet about their weekends. Paradoxically, Pitts calls this the "Protect Life Act." What a lovely thing Christian family values are.

And remember, these are the same people bleating about less government, less government!
