It's the Cult of Scientology, as might be expected.
Church of Scientology investigated over ‘slave labor’: report

By Daniel Tencer
Monday, February 7th, 2011 -- 6:59 pm

The FBI is investigating the Church of Scientology over allegations its practices may have violated human trafficking laws, a news report states.

According to a profile of filmmaker and former Scientologist Paul Haggis in the New Yorker, the FBI is running an ongoing investigation into claims the church pays some of its workers as little as $50 per week, forces children into "billion-year" contracts and sometimes uses physical force to keep church members from escaping Scientology compounds.

The allegations center around Sea Org, a religious order inside the church whose 6,000 members are used by the church as labor, including maintenance of church properties.

In a 2009 expose, the St. Petersburg Times reported on former church spokesman Mike Rinder, who alleged Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige beat him on numerous occasions and that violence was generally encouraged as a means of maintaining church law.

It was around that time, the New Yorker reported, that the FBI began probing allegations against the church.

It's been a spell, but I've read about Miscavige before. He's a cowardly, snivveling, Hitleresque, little douchebag who needs to have his ass kicked up amongst his ears. And then locked up, ass, ears and all; altogether or separately.

As with all cults, the leaders of Scientology feather their own nests with the efforts of their benighted followers. In this case, David Miscavige and Tom Cruise have had their motorcycles customized.

Tom Cruise’s Favorite Toys Were Built For Free by Scientology Slaves
John Cook — These motorcycles belong to Tom Cruise and David Miscavige, the leader of Scientology. Miscavige's is in the center; Cruise's Honda Rune is on the left and his Triumph Rocket is on the right. Those luscious, deep red tones were custom-painted by Scientology drones earning less than $1 an hour.

One of the many commendable things about Lawrence Wright's recent lengthy investigation into Scientology in the New Yorker is an interview with John Brousseau, a former member of Scientology's Sea Org who claims to have been drafted to do what amounts to slave labor for Tom Cruise. Brousseau, who is apparently quite handy, told Wright that he nickel-plated and custom painted two of Cruise's motorcycles at Cruise's request, and that he gutted and customized Cruise's favorite Ford Excursion, all while being paid $50 a week as a grunt in Scientology's brownshirt militia. The painted bikes and SUV were presented to Cruise as a gift from Miscavige.

Less than a dollar an hour. How is it that these scumbags are still walking around free?

The Germans and the French, demonstrating sound, European judgement have banned the cult and I think the Spanish have as well. As an obviously criminal organization, they should be banned worldwide.

I've been loosely keeping track of these assholes for some years and none of this comes as any sort of a suprise. They were thieves and thugs when Hubbard brought them together and have not improved since.

There are a couple of problems with this article, however. Nickle plating is not something you'd attempt in a garage workshop; not in any sort of a productive manner, anyway. But overall, it's about right.
