Now, I'm as pro-life as the next guy (whoever the hell he is, he's starting to piss me off, always standing beside me like that!) But Huh? This is apparently going on in South Dakota.
House Bill 1171
Section 1. That § 22-16-34 be amended to read as follows: 22-16-34. Homicide is justifiable if committed by any person while resisting any attempt to murder such person, or to harm the unborn child of such person in a manner and to a degree likely to result in the death of the unborn child, or to commit any felony upon him or her, or upon or in any dwelling house in which such person is. Section 2. That § 22-16-35 be amended to read as follows: 22-16-35. Homicide is justifiable if committed by any person in the lawful defense of such person, or of his or her husband, wife, parent, child, master, mistress, or servant, or the unborn child of any such enumerated person, if there is reasonable ground to apprehend a design to commit a felony, or to do some great personal injury, and imminent danger of such design being accomplished. |

It is my understanding that this botched, legislative abortion is undergoing some modification, for good or ill -- pun meant seriously. Just have to wait & see.

Call me crazy, but I have recently started to think that what needs to happen here in the US is for the crazy assholes step up and act as crazy as they can.
This might be the only way to break the apathy of the average non voting citizen. The crazy will have to rise above the noise, scare enough people, and then it will be dealth with.
Just hope we can withstand the damage the crazy fuckers inflict before enough people wake up.

I agree in principle, but I would've thought that 8 years under W and that absolute wreck he left this country in, would have enough to wake people up. But alas, witness a mere two years from him and clowns like Rand Paul get elected... |

Yeah. The reason for that is not to hard to understand though, democrats have no leadership willing to take a stand and they lack the ability to compete in the spin game. Even Obama, who can speak well when it comes to it, is seen (by many liberals) as weak, timid, and intimidated by the rightwing.

The bill was shelved. Barbara Boxer is asking people to sign a internet petition to block Republicans trying to prevent insurance from covering abortion. The reality is that abortion will be around no matter what happens. What Roe V Wade did was allow doctors to perform abortions and thus prevent unnecessary mortality and morbidity from botched abortions. |

Are "It would happen anyway" and "It would prevent botched abortions" good enough reasons on their own for it to be legal? |

So in cases of even rape, say, you'd still say: Tough shit? Carry it through anyway? Or how's about if the mother's health or life was in danger?

The ideal is that proponents of making some behavior illegal provide compelling arguments in favor of criminalization. (This ideal is often corrupted or ignored by lawmakers who think that just because they have enough votes to pass a law, it means they should, but that's beside the point.)
It is a fact that everything not currently illegal is legal. If the behavior in question were putting pickles in your armpits, would you seriously ask if "it would happen anyway" were sufficient reason for it to be legal? Of course not. You'd struggle to come up with any reason to make it illegal, and that'd be reason enough to not make it so.
And so, what are some compelling arguments to criminalize abortion? |
