I have stated on other forums misleading publication should be treated like any other fraud and criminal charges should be brought against the scientist/author. Case in mind Andrew Wakefield. BMJ published and later retracted his work. Andrew Wakefield later lost his medical license. But no criminal charges have been laid against him for the extensive damage his fraudulent research caused.

The most I see coming out of Bem's publication if debunked and retracted will be a small upward spike in the sale of aspirins.

Regarding open-mindedness, I highly recommend this 10-minute video by QualiaSoup:

I've seen it. I too highly recommend it.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

I went through the video too, cool!! Has a bit of everything in it. Psychology, stereotyping, assumptions, and plenty of generalizing. The basic premise is cause and effect. There are legitimate situations where a request to keep an open mind might be the only possible way to advance the discussion.

Recent studies attempts to show we are pretty much hardwired to believe, react and behave in a certain way. We have less control over our autonomy than was previously believed. Based on new brain scanning techniques one can even predict if you are a liberal or conservative.
